The one from 2020? It was a short story collection.

What...?
Kyon only just started his 2nd Year of high school in Volume 9. Graduation is a long way off...

I have to give the first orchestral concert, which appeared in the Japanese release blu-ray box set of the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, credit for my first visiting Japan.

Even if I could get a ticket to the new concert, I am not sure that I would attend, but it is good to see everyone being involved in a reunion concert.

EDIT Tickets haven't actually gone on sale yet, but the initial ticket lottery has commenced on 24th September 2023 until the end of 8th October 2023 JST:

Maybe that isn't a bad idea.

Frankly, I think that after 10 - 15 years since the last anime in franchise, instead of jumping onto a sequel, it's better to just restart it all.

Nothing to do with how previous anime holds up, but there would be a noticeable dissonance after all these years.

Visuals, audio, even voice actors matured in the meantime, not to mention that to capture the new fans, a new beginning is simply, well, simpler, because most of them won't go out of their way to rewatch 2000s anime.

All I know is that if there was anymore Haruhi Suzumiya animated that I'd drop dead from shock and excitement, lol .. I hope the afterlife has Crunchyroll or that Haruhi herself could resurrect me, lol

If they jumped into a new season you can bet the "renewal" would be broadcast again.

Maybe they could give it the "Brotherhood" treatment like alot of series have done. That'd be interesting.

A new Haruhi novel gets announced and most of the comments are about the anime and even saying they should reanimate the stuff that everyone already knows about instead of covering all the crazy stuff that was never animated.

Sad to me

I can't talk for others, but one of the reasons I love remakes is also simply to experience already familiar story but with modern animation, and direction.

For instance, Hunter x Hunter remake animated so much stuff that was already covered in previous adaptation, but I still loved it because to me, even with the same story, it was still its own experience.

They could have easily just animated Chimera Ant arc, and maybe Elections arc, and be done with it, but in the long run, HxH remake simply feels more complete with previous arcs (re)animated as well.

Haruhi content that wasn't animated could simply be done afterwards.

I always find it really redundant to say that a series should get a remake simply because "it's old and nobody would watch it". That only really works if it's a REAAAAALLY old series like Hokuto no Ken or Gegege no Kitaro. Otherwise, series shouldn't get full remakes unless they had actually bad adaptations, or just that strayed away too far from the source material.

KyoAni animation holds up perfectly fine, it's better than the vast majority of nowadays seasonal stuff.

There's no need to remake it.
