need more haruhi, that's how the world can heal. we didn't appreciate the endless eight enough. in fact, what if they announce a new haruhi movie, but it's an endless eight movie. personally, as a fan of culture, i would welcome it with open arms.

They should really just announce the new anime already, while interest is still there.
Personally, I would wish them to do a remake as a fresh start, but even a sequel is better than nothing.

I wouldn't see the point of a Haruhi Suzumiya reboot since, unless they skip a lot of the short side stories, that would be around 26 episodes (I'm assuming only two episodes for "Endless Eight" this time but at least six episodes for Disappearance) reanimating material that was already mostly very well-adapted (especially Disappearance) before we'd get to any "new" content that hasn't already been animated.

I definitely think there's a place for more of the Haruhi anime, but I don't at all understand the desire for a remake. The original show still holds up fine and is readily accessible, and still has a multitude of shows in the industry trying to capture what it had going for it, so there's really no need at all for any kind of modernization or refinement or reintroduction. Just get to the new material that's actually worth caring about. You've got everything from Snowy Mountain Syndrome on to draw from, you could make a lengthy revival series if desired without even touching the first 4.66 books again.

I just wonder why this needed to be crowdfunded in the first place. One of the biggest multimedia franchises of the past 20 years was suddenly hurting for money?

Top Gun: They're almost certainly testing the waters for a continuation of the anime.
It's one thing for people to say they want a new season of Haruhi Suzumiya (or at least another movie or two) but, if a large number of fans are willing to fund a short music video with their own money, that's rock solid proof that there is still demand after nearly a decade and a half with no new mainline Haruhi Suzumiya anime. (The Disappearance of Yuki Nagato was a side universe story.)

You'd think they'd have other metrics they could go on. Like book sales, merchandise sales, etc.

For me personally, even if I can still watch it, and animation is good for its era, 2000s Haruhi anime is still 2000s anime, and it shows.
I don't care how well it still holds up; I want a reboot because I want the big return of Haruhi anime to be its own thing, with a proper beginning, not tied to the past (well, aside from returning seiyu, and maybe music, I guess).
I want the entire new adaptation to feel like it is made in current era, and yes that also includes modern character designs.

So you mean it's better than most current series and is still perfectly watchable? I agree!
