In all seriousness though, I think a lot of April Fool's jokes, at least related to anime would be a good thing if they ended up being real.

For sure. And I do think that a lot of times, these "fake announcements" are a a way to test the waters.

This is not true. The game was always supposed to be an turn-based RPG. They just made it to look like a joke. The game released in that very same year, it's impossible to completely change the structure of a game in so little time.
