Wow that was quick for a Falcom game getting a Nintendo port for such a new system. Granted it's on the regular Switch already but considering I've heard that Falcom doesn't really like Nintendo I'm guessing this is a Publisher thing.

I just don't know what to think about this one. I guess we'll see just how much the "new story" bits actually add to the game, but the whole affair leaves a bad taste in my mouth: they announced this thing right when I was 20 hours deep into the PC version, and it just killed my desire to keep playing.
I expect this kind of surprise (improved?) re-release from Atlus, but even Atlus typically waits a *little* bit longer before making the announcement.

Why do you think that? They've ported a whole bunch of games to the Switch already, some of which actually run better there than on other consoles (Zero/Azure), and I think Kondo's been pretty up front in the past about wanting to get as many Falcom games on as many platforms as possible.

To be slightly fair, Ys X had already been out in Japan over a year before the announcement was made, and even now I don't think they've made any official English announcement of it.
But that said, I definitely agree with the overall sentiment. My own pre-order of the Ys X limited edition was significantly delayed in shipping due to my having pre-ordered a different game with Spring 2025 release date at the same time, and I reacted to the "Proud Nordics" announcement by requesting said LE pre-order be canceled (which they obliged without any question/pushback). Still the only game in the series I've yet to play.

However if what you think Kondo said is true then I withdraw my statement about them hating Nintendo. I still consider them a PC game developer first and formost for what it's worth.

FWIW I vaguely recall hearing something along those same lines back in the PSP/Vita days. Might have just been hearsay though, meant to explain why the only the only Ys games to come to Nintendo platforms since Ys 5 on the SNES had been a couple ports of Ys I&II and an RTS game for the DS that wasn't developed by Falcom.
It wasn’t until Ys 8 got it's Switch port 2 years after initial JP release that Nintendo getting Ys ports started being a normal thing again (including backfilling games they missed, so they now only lack Arc and 7).

From what I remember reading, across multiple interviews, Kondo, like most people in his position, is pretty platform-agnostic. The goal is always to sell as many games to as many people as possible. If we're talking about the DS/3DS/Wii eras, I suppose there may have been some assumptions at play about the JRPG audience just not being there on those platforms, which could potentially be framed as "anti-Nintendo," but I think that would be a mischaracterization.
Regardless, Falcom's clearly made an effort to get games on Nintendo platforms in recent years, so I don't think there's much reason to speculate on this count.
As for Falcom being a PC developer... I mean, that certainly used to be the case, but they abandoned the PC a long time ago. I think Trails In The Sky: The 3rd was their last PC game, in the Trails series at least, not sure about Ys (maybe Napishtim? They've been console-first for a very long time town, typically farming out PC ports to third parties (years, sometimes decades after the fact).

Zwei II (Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection) was Falcom's final PC game, which unfortunately didn't do super well. But yeah, likely the reason this game came out sooner than usual for the Switch is because they actually have an in-house Switch porting team that they formed a couple years back or so. (Note this team was not responsible for Zero and Azure's Switch ports, but were done by PH3, who also do many of the Falcom PC ports for their western releases.) Nihon Falcom is also a relatively small company, so really the only reason they didn't have that team before is because it takes a lot of resources to support multiple consoles, and they didn't want to suddenly switch their workflow from their Playstation-first production model (which would've caused issues with their "one game a year" schedule they have going).
