I only agree with the #1 spot.
Kanojo, Okarishimasu S4 & Kakkou no Iinazuke S2 get my votes. Summer Pockets gets an honorable mention. e: Kamitsubaki-shi Kensetsuchuu also gets a mention for being a confusing mess, being a mixed media project which is based on games/manga/songs(?) really made it hard to follow at times. I actually agree with everything on this list, especially Tougen Anki. I watched the first dozen episodes but I really can’t see myself watching any more of it. Shield Hero was only mildly better than that this season.

I agree about Nyaight of the Living Cat, Tougen Anki, Solo Camping and Uglymug, but I will have to push back on Mynoghra, Shield Hero and Watari'Kun's ****** is about to Collapse.
To be clear, I don't think Shield Hero S4 and Mynoghra are particularly good (especially Shield Hero), but I definitely don't think they're anywhere near bad enough to go on the list. And maybe it's just me, but I legitimately enjoy Watari-Kun. Personally, I'd replace the three of them with Welcome to the Outcast's Restaurant, Rent-A-Girlfriend S4, Seventh Prince S2, Kamitsubaki City Under Construction, Hotel Inhumans, and Cultural Exchange with a Game Centre Girl. I'm honestly shocked that last one wasn't mentioned considering it's a show about grooming a thirteen-year-old girl, but then again, maybe everyone just forgot about it, which is totally fair. Personally I loved Nyaight of the Living Cat. It was hilarious and there were so many Hollywood movie references! I had a really fun time with the show.
Tougen Anki I almost dropped after three episodes. If you've seen Naruto and Blue Exorcist, there's not much reason to watch this. But I hung in there because I really like the opening and ending credits and I liked the character designs too. Overall it's not a show that reinvents the wheel, but sometimes it's nice to see someone else handle the same concepts and tropes. Totally agree with Shield Hero. Awesome intro but beyond that, I don't even know what the show is about anymore. And I loved the first season but man has it gone off the rails since then. Worst show for me was Gachiakuta. I dropped that after three episodes. Just wasn't feeling it. Last edited by SrkSano on Tue Sep 23, 2025 8:53 am; edited 1 time in total |

Nyaight does struggle with finding enough to do with its characters and premise. It mostly sticks out in episodes where it switches off from the main group to other people doing unrelated things since it comes off as filling the run time. Maybe those people eventually join up with the main group, but it kind of feels like it could have been a season of half episodes and worked better.

Nyaight of the Living Cat would have worked better as a short-form series
Mr. Osomatsu season 4 has mostly been terrible. It feels like they’ve ran out of jokes |

I only dropped two anime this season, Bad Girl (not because I thought it was particularly bad - pun non intended - but because I was just too full of things to watch and it wasn't that interesting) and New P&S (because I didn't even like the first season so I don't know what I was expecting from a sequel). Out of everything I did keep watching that's new for the season, the worst is definitely Osomatsu 4. Even if I respect the dedication to some of the bits with some very laser focused episodes, it just hasn't been very funny throughout. Not that this turns out to be a particularly bad season for the show - it's about as average as the others
Mynoghra has a very unfortunate production and the LN structure makes it so there's a string of pretty boring episodes and then finally a climax where something happens so I expected it to not go well for most people, and even to me, though I like the LNs. I thought I was going to dislike Nyaight but it did manage to have at least one gag or joke every episode that got me to keep watching Now for the actual actual worst that I kept watching I have to kind of cheat and pick Witch Watch. Not counting last season's episodes I thought about 2/3rds of the episodes to be outright bad. I didn't think the structure foregoing arcs and just cramming three usually unrelated chapters into an episode would go this bad, but damn |

I think the case for Shield Hero being # 1 can be made more succinctly: It's BORING!!! BOOOOOOORRRRRINNNNNGGGG! I don't think I cared about or was entertained even a little by a single darn thing that happened this season.

I think that most of the ones listed were boring rather than plain bad. Several would have worked far better with shorter episodes because the premise was rather repetitive. In other cases such as Shield Hero and Tougen Anki they are bland due to being very cliche, especially in the case of the latter.
Kamitsubaki City Under Construction not being on the list surprises me, that one I would call pure bad. |

Mynoghra's been one of the anime I've been most excited to watch when it drops all season. Atou's a joy, the mysteries keep me engaged, and the recent plot twists these last couple of episodes have me craving a season 2.
Watari I unfortunately dropped. I used to read it and like the VAs, but the production and story just don't have the sauce. It was the third show I dropped after Kizetsu Yuusha and whatever that party banishment show was called I dropped on episode 1. |

I suspect no one at the ANN had subjected themselves to a misery that is Rent-a-Girlfriend because otherwise it would be an obvious top 1 contender. Would be an actual battle of shittiness titans among the top-2. I haven't watched it myself, but considering it didn't make it to THE SCENE this season, pacing should have been especially atrocious even compared to manga.
Among the stuff on the list I've watched the first two. Nyaight of the Living Cat is, indeed, quite dull. I've read the first volume of the manga and I think it's more palatable in that format. And Mynoghra is a typical example of "here's what's wrong with existing WN -> LN -> anime" pipeline. Like, there are interesting ideas, but it would require complete rewrite by a competent writer. And unfortunately for us, prevalent mindset in a Japanese adaptation culture is treating source material like a gospel. Show is at its strongest when it just lets it's characters be a crazy murderous freaks, so it should have leaned into it, cause all its attempts to do something interesting with the setting fell flat so far. Kamitsubaki City Under Construction had reminded me a lot of Gekidol from a few years back. Extremely convoluted music sci-fi with some mixed media shenanigans. Writing is so choppy it barely holds itself together, but this is kind of shit I watch seasonals for, like no way in hell anyone will talk about this show ever again. Other than that haven't seen anything offensively bad. Cultural Exchange With a Game Centre Girl is a forgettable SoL comedy with iffy premise and Sally Amaki miserably failing at doing British accent (probably only actually funny thing in the show). As for iffy premise in question for 99% of the time it is actually treated as sane people would treat a child having a crush on an adult IRL. Her peers treat it seriously, as children would, and adults mostly dismiss it as a childish delusion, as they would (and should). Crush in question still has no idea about anything. Although there were a handful of instances when some adults also treat Lily's infatuation as a legit romance to be pursued, so I raised my eyebrow a few times. Thankfully, it doesn't seem like kind of show to get a full adaptation, so the less I know about how it will end, the better. A Couple of Cuckoos Season 2 is the same haremslop as before, kind of mindless comfort food in anime format. New girl fulfills one of my favorite harem archetypes: The Wreaking Ball. They come in too late to be a legitimate contender, they do it with enough force to shake up status quo so other girls have to become more proactive. My votes go to
Shield Hero, to reaffirm my complaint from the weekly reviews, the author didn't care about the plot so why should I? Imagine if in the Lord of the Rings Frodo went back to The Shire repeatedly to switch out characters.... Onmyo Kaiten Re Birth, where the show was just as tortured as the title. It had at least 3 seasons worth of plot and ideas crammed in to 12 episodes, and unsurprisingly failed to really give any of it any weight. everything else was... mediocre at worst. |

Every episode of RAG S4 is the same 3 songs on loop, walls of on-screen monologue with lengthily monologues and characters being visibility shocked any kind of drama or minor plot developments. This is all coupled with progression so slow, you thought you where still in the 2nd season. |

Sounds about what I would expect. Haven't watched past S1, but still torturing myself with manga, although about 150 chapters ago I starter using special technique "don't ever read Kazuya's inner monologue", which reduces time wasted on it by roughly 75% |

Somewhat surprised not to see Kamitsubaki-shi Kensetsuchuu on this list. I haven't watched it myself, but from what I could see from the scores, this would have been the worst show of the season. It started out low and dropped even lower throughout the season when looking at the MAL-score. On the other hand it doesn't surprise me that much, though, as it was the worst show from the season, so nobody probably even watched it. The few clips I've seen looked pretty bad and it always felt rather niche.
On a different note, glad that Shit Hero made the top spot. Nothing about this show feels like it's about the actual story anymore. We've started with the main quest (defeating the waves), went into a side quest (something something phoenix, I don't even remember), stopped halfway through to go into a sidequest (the whole priestess thingy) only to stop following that to go on a sidequest about the tiger siblings at the beginning of the season. Nothing about this feels thought through anymore, it's all just an amalgamation of "hey, people keep reading this shit, so let's add more depthTM to it" and none of it is good. It should really have stuck with its original story, followed it to the end and then started something new... |
