Why the Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card anime became so obscure?

I have heard back in 2023 that the Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card anime will get its sequel. At this moment, we haven't heard about that Clear Card sequel. Worse, the Clear Card anime itself somehow became an obscure and forgotten thing compared to the original Cardcaptor Sakura anime. Was this because of its negative reception, low ratings, failing to live up to the original Cardcaptor Sakura anime or something like that? Did the Clear Card anime put a halt to any new adaptations of the CLAMP manga? I wonder!

I don't know but I hope it's not abandoned. I recently re-watched the original Cardcaptor Sakura and really enjoyed it. While Clear Card isn't the same, it's still enjoyable, especially the amazing art.

I'm going to have to agree with HomuraNagato -- The Clear Card isn't that popular or that... powerful unlike the Clow and Sakura Card era/series.

If I were to think deeper about it, I would want to think about one of the main reasons for the lack of popularity is the fact that when the manga came out, it's the era of Isekai. The audience isn't the same as before at all. Unlike in the 1990s, where magical girls were still a big thing, especially CLAMP being at its high point.

Other than that, I think the other factor is that it somehow doesn't really follow thru with previous series when it comes to relationship dynamics between Yukito and Touya or Rika and Terada-sensei. The anime series doesn't really show it, and the one of the major thing with CCS, are also portraying these relationships. It's what made CCS interesting and unique.

I think that's a good point. The plot is really simple on it's face but also still compelling, and I think that is because it explores relationships the way it does. I still think the plot, action, and visuals would make a fine series on their own, but the way the series explores relationships (and the shifting emotions that comes with them) is what really pushes it into all time classic territory.

Exactly! It's what made CLAMP be visible on the map! How they portray and explore relationships. You can see it also on their other works like X/1999 (especially this), Chobits, Tokyo Babylon, XxXHolic, heck even Clamp Gakuen Tanteidan! It may be subtle, but viewers can immediately pick it up.

CCS Clear Card was just... it's like they stepped away from their original take on the complexity of relationships.
