Too bad ''Shenmue: The Animation'' didn't adapt the third game. Why?

OK, I'm glad I didn't buy/hold off the PS4 version. And the description of the enhanced mode looks promising and a bit of an improvement from the initial original release. Uh, and I want to correct something:
| Quote: | | Shenmue III Enhanced will feature enhanced graphics and performance, 4K textures, support for DLSS/FSR, increased NPC density, a classic camera mode inspired by the seies' first two games, optional stamina system adjustments, health restoration before fights, reduced money barriers, cutscene/conversation skip options, an expanded quick time event timing window, and streamlined menu navigation. The options can be toggled off for players who want to experience the original game. |
Looks like a misspelling to me: "seies", do you mean "series"? Just wanted to put it there just in case.

Why does that sound like a threat?

Glad to see this finally get an Xbox release!
| Quote: | | The company released Shenmue II on the Dreamcast in Japan in 2000, and in North America in 2001. Shenmue II also received an Xbox version in 2002. |
There was a 2001 Dreamcast release of Shenmue II in Japan and Europe, but it never made it to North America until the Xbox version.

I'll admit I'm only a causal observer. But I thought the franchise is dead.

Shenmue 3 was critically panned and there was pretty much total silence since then aside from Shenmue The Animation which got cancelled before it could adapt Shenmue 3. This is the first bit of news on the series since then. It also doesn't necessarily mean a Shenmue 4, in any form, is forthcoming.

One of the many projects canned after the WB merger.

More specifically, the sale of Crunchyroll to Sony. According to Jason DeMarco, there was interest from both sides in doing more but they do not want to work with each other.

Could the enhance version fix the fact that Shemmue 3 is basically a filler episode padded by a lot of grinding?

I find it ironic that more Japanese developers are releasing on Xbox Series now, when MS don't care as much - instead of back then, when MS cared more about selling more Xboxes

Hmm, I guess this has to do that the Japanese gaming market is not as big as it was long time ago.
