Tubi really is a vault of hidden treasure. I’m tempted to watch this, I know it’s super influential.

Did a double-take at the headline. "Isn't that--oh wait no not that one."

This starts with a Samurai Vs. Ninja splash screen, meaning this is Remow's doing.

Added to my ongoing 'anime backlog' list, been on an 'old school' kick with anime lately as the more recent ones (with some exceptions) have left me wanting.

PEOPLE, WATCH ROMEO'S BLUE SKIES AND BUY THE BLU-RAY!!! It's an absolutely fantastic anime that deserves more love! And unfortunately, AnimEigo has said it's their worst selling title since the acquisition of the company. If you want more WMT, buy it!!! You have no excuse not to!! There might not be another chance to get it after this!!!

Is this why there's a company apparently based in Mexico credited at the end of each episode? Honestly never heard of "Caligrama Editores" myself until today.

I feel Japan announcing their own Blu-ray a few months after AnimEigo's announcement and that's in 4:3 HD was what doomed the release here since the video on AnimEigo's set is based off a HD remaster that Nippon Animation did in the 2010s for streaming & TV that's cropped in 16:9 (unfortunately not the only WMT series that had this treatment either) while the 4:3 version they do have is in SD, I assume based off the older DVDs.

I have to wonder if the Ruined Childhood marketing is working against Animeigo here.

Full Moon was mentioned to be selling well for them, so it really just depends on the title.

To be fair, Full Moon was never advertised as a Ruined Childhood release until it actually came out & people saw the logo on the back cover, so it getting added to that label was likely a last minute decision. Full Moon was really promoted more on the fact that it was finally getting fully released & (later) that the full English dub for the entire show would be included for the first time ever. The show itself technically having a depressing undertone to it was always secondary, more or less.
In comparison, Nobody's Boy Remi & Romeo's Blue Skies were Ruined Childhood promoted more or less instantly & were promoted almost primarily on their stories of overcoming harsh & depressing lives. I get the point of the Ruined Childhood label, but I always felt that it was maybe a little too much of an inside joke to really attract anyone outside of the most hardcore AnimEigo supporters. The entire reason for its creation was Justin partially joking on a livestream "Maybe I should have a label all about anime featuring children who suffer for the entire story" (as I believe he had just announced that he had licensed both Remi & Full Moon), everyone in the chat going "You should actually do that!", and Justin then going "OK, I will". However, to anyone who wasn't a part of that livestream when the joke was made the label doesn't really sound instantly appealing, because why would most people want to buy anime about kids having "ruined" childhoods?
Also, I would argue that Romeo's Blue Skies was probably not the best first choice to go with for a World Masterpiece Theater license, as it's one of the lesser known entries. To be fair, that's probably why AnimEigo was able to license it in the first place, but I would imagine that most WMT fans would have preferred something like Anne of Green Gables, My Daddy Long Legs, A Dog of Flanders, 3,000 Leagues in Search for Mother, or even Les Misérables: Little Girl Cosette to be released first, and if Romeo's failure results in those more well known WMT entries being left without a physical English release then that's a shame.
As for the Kamui anime being given an official English stream, that's really cool & I have to imagine that this came about, at least in part, due to AnimEigo licensing the Sasuke anime, as both came from Eiken. I would imagine Eiken saw AnimEigo license Sasuke (plus the Kamui manga getting released by Drawn & Quarterly) & then think "Huh, maybe we should also offer our other ninja anime from the 60s, too, in some way!". Eiken actually has a rather neat & eclectic catalog of titles that are iconic in Japan but otherwise unheard of abroad (like Captain & Play Ball, or even the original Tetsujin 28 anime), so I'd be cool if they teamed with Tubi to offer more titles in English, if no one's going to license them otherwise.
