That is huge news.... perhaps after a couple of years and popular demand they will decide to bring it back. At the moment in addition to an annual 50 episode season they produce two box office films were per year (one crossover featuring the previous team and introducing the new one and one mid season film). They also produce occasional anniversary films e.g. for 10th anniversary's of popular teams.

There had been some talk that the annual Taiga series was on the bubble as well due to falling viewership.

A person on blue sky is claiming this is just a rebrand and was known but no source.

^Yeah, there are people at RangerBoard saying the same thing.

We've known for a while about the #SuperSentai Series ending with Gozyuger, which is true, but that's because they're re-branding with a new name.
This news is correct, but as a technicality due to the re-branding.

I guess they're rebranding it as Super Super Sentai.

One still has to wonder what's happening. Between this and the One Piece news, it seems like something big has shifted in Japanese television.

My speculation is that a rebranding may be Toei's solution to the issue of the rights to the Super Sentai franchise outside of Asia being chained to whoever owns Power Rangers (currently Hasbro).

As long as "Super Sentai" exists, they can't move toward growing an international audience like they're doing with Kamen Rider. By "killing" Super Sentai and rebranding it, while it doesn't help the previous series escape licensing purgatory, it would open the path toward selling future installments to a global market again for the first time since the early 90s.

So what's going to happen to the franchise brand? Is there anymore information coming out of Japan that we can get more detail on?

Hopefully this is the end goal. Crazy times indeed currently and again, sometimes, some things naturally come to an end.

Lot of fans saying "Oh no this cant be true, the next series is in pre-production, it must just be a rebrand".

But the news being reported isn't coming out of Toei, its coming out of the broadcaster TV Asahi due to the shows financial performance. So It looks like the channel could drop the series and the show even if it continued under a different name would have to find a new home, possibly a shorter series on a streaming platform with a reduced budget.

But Shout! Factory in the past was able to release Super Sentai on DVDs in the US without any issues. I don't know why and what Power Rangers have to do with Super Sentai brand being "killed" by Toei. I don't think that could be the reason.

Well, whatever it is, I hope we can get more detail. I don't have any report from Tokusatsu Network reporting on this. Even Variety, Hollywood Reporter, or Deadline Hollywood hasn't released any report on this. Are there any obscure news that report on Japanese entertainment/showbiz that have done any report, or gotten any confirmation on this???

Damn, I was afraid of something like this. When Toei suddenly decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary a year early (until now they had already celebrated anniversaries based on number of series, not on number of years) it felt like a sign of desperation, and possibly indicated that they didn't think they'd be getting a 50th series at all.

I really hope the talk of a rebrand is true. Sentai is an institution in Japan, and it's insane that it would go away now, at a time when Japanese pop culture is more popular worldwide than ever before.

Wouldn't be the first time a Toei Toku jumped from station to station.

Kamen Rider jumped from Asahi to MBS for a couple of seasons after Amazon. Stronger through Black RX aired on MBS exclusively (while they co-aired the OG to Amazon with Asahi, it wasn't exclusively) with the Heisei shows onward, starting with Kuuga onwards, returning to Asahi and airing exclusively there.

it could also be a way for them to escape the Power Rangers contracts too and reinvent the formula. Half year seasons like Ultraman could be a possibility if they keep better care of their materials, keep them in good shape and reuse them.

Heck, for an anime example, Digimon had Xros Wars air on TV Asahi & Appmon air on TV Tokyo instead of Fuji TV where the rest had been.

Even Leon Channel is doomposting and made a video about it.

Shame if true, but people have been theorizing this for a decade at least due to declining ratings and sales. I got into Sentai when Shinkenger was airing and loved it since even during the low seasons. I always liked it more than Kamen Rider. It would explain why they went very experimental with shows like Zenkaiger and Kingohger and Gozyuger.

I just started collecting the Super Sentai Blokees too
