i'm gonna be selling popcorn in the comments if you want some, because to quote a rameses b song, "it's time to have fun"!
in all seriousness...it's annoying, spotify recently did something similar. at least with spotify, that was from peer pressure from record labels like umg, sony music and wmg, but i can't figure out a reason sony did besides money. it's also funny because sony sent out a mandatory update literally a few hours ago which mentioned how they updated their terms. almost like foreshadowing... The writing was on the wall when the price increased for the regions outside the US a little over a year ago. What's surprising is that it took this long for the price increase to happen...

They really have some balls to ask for more money for the terrible quality they offer. If this shit keeps up, I won't even buy CR Blu-Rays anymore.

Not even two years after the last price increase, for me it would be ok if they keep getting most if not all the good stuff season after season, tho I have an annual plan so I suppose I'll be paying $1,800 mxn pesos next January, which btw won't seems to be affected as of now, I suppose? But will in the future, no doubts on that.
Edit: I've just got a mail from them and if I got it right they'll reduce my subscription from $1,499 to $1,139 mxn pesos, so I'm more than ok with their price changes Last edited by el_morris on Mon Feb 02, 2026 4:18 pm; edited 3 times in total |

Terrible quality? In regards to CR Itself? If thats the case, they are flawed, thats for sure, but terrible, no. What does that sentence have to do with you not buying CR Blu-Ray anymore? Last edited by Sinxi and heylog on Mon Feb 02, 2026 4:23 pm; edited 1 time in total |

They are making that choice for you, by literally not releasing 99% of what they get these days (less releases per month than sentai...). This is what they are pushing, a digital only future more and more expensive. |

A fine point. I’m still waiting for season 4 of Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These.

Yep, and it leads to reiterating a certain quote in conjunction with where it leads (piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem.). All I can say is sail the seven seas at your own risk and be wary of bootleg disc offerings at various retailers (online or physical). CR and Sony have put themselves into that position through how shoddy their services are, on top of increasing their prices due to their own greed. |

They really had balls to ask people to pay more money for shit tier subbed anime. I shall continue to sail the seven seas.

They recently changed their subbing software and it shows. The typesetting is shittier, a lot of on-screen text isn't getting translated, it has AI integration that's leading to worse translations on more shows and there's also just a lot more typos and errors than there used to be. Geoff Thew made a video about it at the start of the Fall season when the change happened https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-DX0Zolr6g Further information about it https://daiz.moe/crunchyroll-is-destroying-its-subtitles-for-no-good-reason/#cr-bad-subs-overlapping-dialogue |

It looks like the one time annual pricing offer applies to the other tiers too. For Mega Fan, it's $99.99. I don't know why they aren't advertising that publicly though; I got that through the e-mail.

Because it's cheaper compared to monthly plans and they get less money that way? Don't know, that company doesn't follow any logic. |

The subbing situation needs a part 2, this season the subs are better and translate the things that are on screen as well (I guess those people dont update their followers on if the situation is better, only when it gets worse lol), I watch up to 15+ seasonal anime each season, and this season has on text things translated, so it seems like they got their shit together (God, Crunchryroll needs to communicate so much more). And as for typos and errors being "more of a thing", I'm not too sure about that, I've seen issues here and there, but thats kinda it, not really increases |
