Eh, really? I mean, I understand being delicate about such matters, but won't a warning at the beginning of the episode be enough in these circumstances? I mean, belonging to a generation that grew up with Sailor Moon... it wasn't Sailor Moon that caused bulimia, as far as I can tell.

Surprised they don't mention all the panty shots. There's a certain point in the anime where it suddenly transitions from being fairly normal to having a *lot* of fanservice, and I'm pretty sure it was in the first season... though I guess I might be misremembering.

Going off the article it's just the one episode since it involves dieting and the scene of Umino creepshotting their teacher at the gym. But yeah there's a lot of sexual stuff in the series but I guess the weight stuff is sensitive to them.

So, Sailor Moon is in the good company of Jaws, most John Wick movies, the terminator movies, as well as the hyperviolent crime thriller 'The Working Man' starring Jason Statham, as well as such classics as the neo-western, and definitely not peaceful, 'No Country For Old Men'? You do you, UK.. Laughing

I was extremely worried the naked transformations would nuke any chance of Sailor Moon and Precure being re released in the UK. But I am glad is a 15 rating and not much if anything of actual censorship or bans.

The diet episode is definitely one of the more dated ones but I would think a 12+ rating and a content warning would be enough. And if they're being that strict, I don't know why episode 2 got away with only a 12+ rating since that episode involves Umino being possessed and flipping up Haruna's skirt and trying to kiss Usagi.

BBFC have been quite inconsistent when it comes to anime. A 12 rating would have been sufficient for the series

There's nothing really dated about wanting to be healthy or lose weight though. It's just this weird UK rating systems that seems to think promoting losing weight is bad for some weird reason.

Literally the episode opens up with Usagi's parents calling her fat and lazy when she looks like every other skinny 90s anime girl. Have you even watched the show?

Crunchyroll UK should make an appeal to the BBFC, because content-wise, it's not even that bad. I understand the concerns towards girls' body image, but a 15 seems too much for the episode. The same episode aired on Fox Kids UK (which was a TV channel on satellite and cable, unlike the block that aired in the US) and ITV via GMTV in the UK back in the early 2000s and was released on VHS and DVD with a U rating, though this was the censored DIC dub of the show, the plot points on body image were retained throughout the episode.

To me, this looks like the BBFC overreacted towards the episode, and It kind of feels like the BBFC are going on an all out war against anime.

This sounded wrong so I pulled up the episode myself and it actually starts with Usagi weighing herself as she gets out of the shower and cries that she's put on weight. Her family then tells her that 1) it's ok to have a little meat on your bones as a kid and 2) if she really wants to lose weight she should eat less and exercize more which sounds completely reasonable.

I mean, they have to censor words like fat or big in English releases to "Plus Size" so it's not surprising weight is a much bigger sensitive issue in the west than Asian countries and warrants an age ratings as silly as it sounds.

You left out the part Shingo tells Usagi she eats too much and her parents say she eats more than studies and that's why she gained weight. You also left out it's Luna who told Usagi to exercise more and then she draws a picture of her extremely fat and mocks her by telling her this is her in six months. Again Usagi is already super skinny and there's nothing fat about her.

Yeah, that episode has...not aged well. I don't think it's worth a 15 age rating, but it should probably have some sort of disclaimer with it.

Maybe she does gain enough weight that it is noticeable, but because of the production schedule, they didn't have time to come up with new model sheets for one episode. I might be completely wrong, but I wouldn't rule it out.
