Hi,
Yeah It's my first time posting here. But I think it's a darn good reason to start now. Yesterday (2/15/07) Adult Swim spilled the beans on their message board that Blood+ will air starting 3/10/07 at 11:30 pm'ish. That's provided they stick to their schedule. Ha! Dee |

Well if your right this is some very interesting news, I am really interested to hear what Saya sounds like in English. It's been so long since I've watched the movie, also it feels like this show has been waiting in the swings for a long time now.....or maybe that because it started such a long time ago. |

Well now I guess we know what new show is going to replace Trinity Blood. This should be awesome! I've been wanting to see it ever since I heard about it. I had no idea it was based off of a movie though.

OT: Adult Swim has, a lot of times, weird shows airred in their network time slots. At first, it was Sea Lab, followed by the more popular Aqua Teen Hunger Force, then all kinds of weird shows kept popping up in Adult Swim.
If they decide to air Blood+ on Adult Swim, it would be awesome. |

Well the TV series isn't based off a movie, it's in the same universe. It's kind of like how their Gundam, and Zeta Gundam some characters are new, and many old faces return. There also a novel (that gets really preachy) and a manga, also there were four videogames for the PS2. The PS2 were never brought to the US, but I always think that this franchise is like .Hack except with less mediums coming to the US. |

It's based off of one of Japan's obnoxious "multimedia" deals, of which we're only now seeing the significant parts coming over. Kinda like .hack//SIGN is spread across four video games, four or five anime, a few novels, and a lot of manga, the original Blood was spread across an anime movie, a couple PS2 games, a single-volume manga, and a novel (or novels). When it first came out, we only got the movie over here, which was forty-five minutes in length and did nothing to fill us in on the actual story. It was like a really pretty filler episode, and left people really divided on the story's quality. Then about four years ago, we got the manga over here, which told us a bit more about what was going on, but seemed like a final chapter in a story we still had yet to see in full. Finally, the (first?) novel came over a couple years ago, and finally provided our first genuine taste of the actual Blood story. Unfortunately, I'd wager that's as far as we'll get, and we'll never get the PS2 games on this side of the Pacific. Blood+ is a very loose retelling of Blood, which basically simplifies the story and reduces it to a more typical shounen-style adventure, as opposed to the extremely grim sort of horror-suspense that the original saga was. Personally, expecting a more faithful retelling, or even a sequel to the original, I was very disappointed in Blood+ and tapered off after five episodes, but that's just me. |

Likewise I wanted a sequel to a movie that I enjoyed, but the series was like a roller coaster. It was down.....down....and then up really high and everything was looking good. And then it crashes and burns.....and leaves you completely in awe in how they manage to ruin this franchise. |

I actually found the original movie to be nearly unbearable. Blood+, whether faithful to the original story or not, has its own unique character. Although slow at times, the series was fairly good overall. I don't think basing your opinion on just the first few episodes really does the show justice. I can see why you might think it's little more than a shounen action/adventure series from the first few episodes, but there really is much more to it. It's certainly not as dark as the movie, but I think it combines elements of mystery, suspense, action, and drama in a way that makes an interesting show overall. |

But then again, there's people like me as well. People who watched it all the way to the bitter end, having hated almost everything along the way, because I just couldn't believe that it was being turned into such a silly show (how many times did Saya meet her mortal enemies and was completely at their whim?). However, regardless of what I thought of the show, I think it's misleading to imply that it's "more than just a shounen" as that not only doesn't make sense technically, I would argue to the grave that it's wrong even in the sense that you mean it. If there's one thing that Blood+ is is a stereotypical (below average) shounen. In other words... I'm totally with you Nagisa, huge disappointment for me too, and my expectations weren't even that high to begin with... |

You'll do well to note, however, my long spiel that referenced the original Blood franchise as a whole, of which the movie was a tiny part. I was saying that Blood+, when compared to Blood as a whole, was a sore disappointment. I was not merely comparing movie to series, but movie + manga + novel to series. Anyway, since it legally won't cost me anything to watch Blood+ now (satellite bill not withstanding), I suppose I'll give it another chance. I tend to obsessively try to finish anything I start anyway, even if it is painfully terrible (see: Love Hina, Gungrave, Abenobashi, Trinity Blood, Gundam SEED Destiny, Hellsing TV, and the first Negima! series, for example). |

yeah that's a perfect analogy for this series. after 39, it was just on a downhill slide. even there were holes in the story, like spoiler[how did Saya get off the boat? and where did she disappear to for a whole year?] seriously, how the hell do you have an 50 episode with unanswered questions? that's just not acceptable. there's been rumors that the production got screwed over, cause they put all focus on Chevalier D'eon. this does make sense when you think about it. |

I might watch Blood+ when it airs, but I doubt it.
I am one of those fans who absolutely loved the mini-movie Blood: The Last Vampire. Even though nothing was explained in the movie it still had the character Saya. To me, Saya was incredible. Strong, silent, dark, brooding, intense; she seemed like somebody you wouldn't want to meet even in a well lit alley even if you were her best friend. When Blood+ was announced I was pretty stoked. I was hoping it would be a more detailed version of Blood:TLV and would explain Saya's origin as well as other things. But as soon as I saw a picture of Saya and how generic looking she was going to be in the series I was extremely disappointed. The Saya in Blood+ could fit in with the cast of Azumanga Daioh or Negima with no problem; something the Saya in Blood:TLV could never do. |

Pretty much, the plot summary can be found here. It's the basic story of a girl who really freaking powerful as she tries to destroy monsters.....with some twist and turns of course. |

Uh, next time try actually looking something like this up yourself instead of interrupting the thread with inane questions. ANN's Encyclopedia, for example, answers your question simply by looking at the title of the original work from which this series is inspired: Blood the Last Vampire. Yeesh. |
