Not sure if this goes here or in manga. Probably manga because it consists of drawings so mods move it if need be.
I found this while I was surfing the web and it's really cool. It's drawings done of Dragon Ball Z by other artists besides Akira Toriyama. I think some of them actually look better then the origional art. I like Mikio Itô's the best. Krillin looks really cool, as does Goku (or is that Gohan http://www.japanator.com/a-mangaka’s-tribute-to-akira-toriyama-and-dragon-ball-z Tell me your thoughts on these and which artists rendering do you like the most? |

VERY cool. The Kohta Hirano one made me laugh x) I also liked the Eichiro Oda one. The shading is fantastic, and the dragon in the background is really neat.

My faves were the ones made by:
-Taito Kubo: Liked that creepy Vegeta in the background. And Piccolo made me laugh. -Suzuki Shinya: Krilin looks awesome in that pic, and the only DB chracter I liked appears, Puar. -Yagi Norihiro: AWESOME effect and coloring. I almost considered it my fave. -Kishimoto Masashi: It's like watching an old-style Naruto they say. It gave me a weird feeling... Those eyes look like Rock Lee's. -Yabuki Kentaro: Nice coloring, Bulma doesn't look too ditzy, Goku looks better and Roshi made me laugh
-Hirano Kota: Roshi looks SO eerily funny there... I dunno why, but he looked a bit (JUST A TINY BIT) like FLCL's Kamon in that pic. The other are OK, but I didn't like Oda Eichiro's one... His chracter design has always given me the creeps. |

All of the pictures FINALLY came up for me this morning.
While I'm not a fan of Dragon Ball, the two that I liked the best were by Koushi Rikudou (Excel Saga) and by Arina Tanemura (Full Moon). I just liked their style of drawing better than the others. |

wow, quite cool for a mangaka to have his characters redrawn by others as a tribute.
although i started with dragonball i don't really like it anymore after having seen so many better stories and designs. my favourites would be....the one by kubo taito (bleach) and the one by masashi kishimoto(naruto) |

I would have to say my favs are Kentarô Yabuki in the way of overall character design. Although the coolest looking pic is Masashi Kishimoto's drawing. The way that no matter how you look at it, its still the same pic. I think the coolest looking character over all is Kubo Taito' General Tao. He just look so sinister, and the way that he only show is profile just says evil.

Very nice! Always great to see various renditions of any manga/anime/theme.
I thought the Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto) one was awesome. Caught that mischievous yet competitive side of Goku nicely and the perspective shot is great!! I don't care much for the Bloomer ones. Maybe because I didn't care much for her character at all. She was pretty annoying. Lunch is awesome though Akira Toriyama influenced many artists and parodies. http://www.answers.com/topic/dragon-ball |

I forgot how much I liked Tao until I saw that rendering of him. He is a very cool character that ultimately gets the short end because he goes up against the improbably good Goku. But come on, smacking Goku away with just his ponytail? Flying before anyone else in the show learns the technique, just by throwing a freaking tree and jumping on it? That's pretty awesome. I always wished that, if they made another DB show, instead of continuing yet further and making the characters even more ridiculously strong, they would go back and make a prequel about Roshi's early days. Of course, Toei can't write DB to save their lives, so it would have to go to another writer or studio. Still, a prequel would probably mean some Tao action too.... Where's the petition, sign me up! |

I really liked Eichiro Oda's, I really like the clothes for some reason.
I thought Kenjiro Takashiro's was pretty funny. (Get em Roshi!!!) Yasuhiro Kano's was pretty cool too, but I mainly like it because Piccolo looks freaking wierd. I love that smile. And of course Kubo Taito's, his looks really good and it definately has that Bleach feel to it. |

Very awesome! It's really nice to see a ton of mangaka doing tributes to this series, especially considering these are some of my favorite mangakas along with Toriyama. It is most definitely the inspiration to all shonen, and at the same time is my inspiration to not only be a big fan of, but also create my own shonen series as well. Here were my top 5 favorites in order:
Kubo Taito: HIs tribute was just simply awesome. I liked how he captured each of the characters he drew, mostly on the dark side of things. His style has always been my favorite style with the exception of Toriyama himself, and he captured Toriyama's original view very well just by using his own. In short, it was like Bleach in DBZ form, and I really liked that. Norihiro Yagi: This one came very close to being my favorite, the only thing making the difference is that Kubo was my favorite over Norihiro. I am currently reading Claymore, and I must say it as well as Norihiro himself are very quickly becoming amongst my favorites. The dark, shady feeling this one gives really just made me love it instantly. Eichiro Oda: Extending my favorite mangakas to my top 5, along with Himoura Arikawa, Eichiro Oda definitely rounds that top 5 out. I actually expected this one to be more comic along the lines of comic relief, but he still made it look pretty awesome. It really captures the feeling of the series pretty well, in fact, his style kind of reminds me of Toriyama's himself. It makes me actually want to see him do more DB and DBZ drawings. Masashi Kishimoto: Along with Toriyama and Kubo, Kishi is right up there with them as my top 3 favorite mangakas. He really captured the more comic relief side of DB very well with his own Naruto style comic relief. In fact, his style of Goku kind of reminded me of Naruto himself in a lot of ways. And the tower in the background is just like something right out of Naruto. Kota Hirano: Hearing that this is the same mangaka that did Hellsing, I actually expected this to be a lot cooler. But it still made me laugh pretty hard. Definitely a very nice tribute to Master Roshi. Just like some have said here already, it reminded me a whole lot of something out of FLCL. Which raises for me this question: did he do FLCL as well? I don't know if this is true, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. |
