as most of you(or some of you) might probully know, I was frankly disapointed with how they handled the ending to the anime adaption for Shaman king, i mean, it felt so completely rushed,while it was'nt quite as badly as rushed as the 42 episode Flame of Recca,but still,there was no excuse for this what so ever.
spoiler[Ok, The Yoh vs Hao fight could have used some works in many areas,just when Hao had the upper hand,Yoh gathers energy from all his friends and fuses with amidamaru,ok, that was cool and all,but Hao could have putted up at least a better fight against Yoh for at least another 2 episodes than that,but yet, he just gets sliced in half in one hit.], sure the manga was better and more developed and all and had all the cooler stuff,but even the manga had it's downsides like the awful artwork in the begainning chapters,while I'll adment that the Anime ending was some-what kind of better than the manga cliffhanger ending whenspoiler[in the manga, it just ends in a cliffhanger of Yoh chasing after Hao], but still, there was no excuse for an anime adaption to have a bogus ending like that. I mean,the shaman fight was just canceled just like that with no explanation and everyone just goes on they're normal lives like they forgotten that none of those crazy plots ever happened in the first placed, and there were no answers on when the shaman fight would start up again. now here are some ideas which I beleive they could improve on Shaman King,if they decide to make a new season, for starters,they could do an adaption of the Shaman king Playstation 2 video game Shaman King Power of Spirits,the one where it had Yoh and his friends fighting against a group of 5 mysteriouse shamans called the force millenium. thats the end of my rant, what do you guys think? |

Let me just start off with saying that I haven't been reading the manga up to date and the only version of Shaman King I've seen is the 4kids version that they aired once. (I wouldn't mind some reruns somewhere...)
The Hao vs Yoh fight wasn't handled any differently from other shonen series in my opinion. spoiler[I mean, generally the bad is beating the good until almost all hope is gone. Then the good comes up with some new attack (possibly with the help from friends) and takes out the bad in one last final attack.] They cancelled the Shaman Fight because of spoiler[Hao's interferance.] It doesn't really need a huge complicated reason or anything. What kind of lives did you want them to lead? Sure, this big event changed them, but that doesn't mean they're going to all move in together and start a band or whatever. Also, for example, Ren spoiler[was clearly in charge of the family or at least himself now, rather than under the will of that big guy. (I can't remember if it was his father or uncle)]. Plus, the Shaman Fight started up again right spoiler[at the very end of the episode. There was a 'shooting star' that everyone was looking at the end. If you remember from earlier in the series, that's the symbol of the fight starting again.] Then they just kinda ended it there, symbolizing the continuance of their adventure/fight/whatever. The only thing they could do to improve my experience with Shaman King is (and yes, I've said this before in other posts) to release it on DVD. If they don't want to properly subtitle it (just say no to dubtitles), then just release the 4kids dub on DVD. Yes it's altered, but it'll be cheaper and I thought several of the corny jokes were kinda funny anyway. |

Well, first off, spoiler[the shaman fight DID start again], during the last minute or so of the last episode, when we were all trying not to listen to Satou Yuuko singing Tamashii Kasanete. spoiler[Y'know, where the comet came back and then Yoh's oracle pager started beeping.]
Second, the reason SK is nearly the only tournament-style show I can stand is because nothing more was done with it than needed to be. The end was kind of abrupt and unsatisfying, yes, but I think in the end the story ended up being more about spoiler[Yoh's fight with Hao] than the shaman tournament dealie, and that storyline was certainly resolved. Of course, there are still some open ended questions, like spoiler[is Hao going to reincarnate again in 500 years,] but other than that, what else do we really need to see? I just can't see SK maintaining its level of outright fun after episode 300 rolls around. It really didn't need to be any longer. I think it's sort of like FMA; it was good while it lasted, but what we got was plenty and any more would just be too much. Of course, if we're talking about things they could have done in general to make SK better, it should have been entirely about the Tao family  ;

actually, 4Kids along with Funimation did once release uncut Dvds of Shaman king,but they were soon canceled along with the Uncut Yugioh Dvds because they did'nt sell well,and I highly doubt they'll ever renew the uncut Dvds again,because as of recent,4Kids have been in quite a huge slump lately and they're trying to steer away from Anime to concentrate more on american cartoons. |

Part of the reason the uncuts didn't sell was because practically no one knew about them; I certainly would have bought uncut DVDs had I known of their existance, but they stopped after about 3 (I think) and I started commiting money to other series in the meantime. It's really a shame, because SK is one of those anime that I'd really like to have in a form that can be lent to others or watched at anime club (or even on my TV) instead of just my fansubs. I AM doing my best to keep up with buying the manga, though, heavily edited though it may be.... |

Yes, I know there were uncut "subtitled" DVDs. Only two of them. Whose subtitles were merely the dubtitles and not actual subtitles. So I have 6 episodes of Shaman King with a supposedly more accurate dub, no halfway amusing corny jokes, and no straight subtitles.
... Imagine my excitement. 
Thus, the only thing anyone could do to improve my experience would be to release (all of) Shaman King on DVD. |

if anyone had TiVo during its run on FOXBOX/4KidsTV, then there might be that some1 with that product might have made bootlegs from the TiVo to DVDs.
I, for one am not a bootleg-buyer, but im just saying that if anyone is going to watch the show on DVD, don't buy the bootlegs, you can watch the 4Kids dub via 4KidsTV On-Demmand (select cable providers) or 4KidsTV.com's VoD site. --The FZ P.S. i did see the finale on 4Kids, it was good, compare that to their flop of an anime dub called "One Piece". I only seen a few scenes of the tv series. I did not bother to watch it because I know that 4Kids will culturally rape it. Yet at the same time 4Kids is unwilling to released uncut and uncensored DVDs and rather concentrate on more american animation (which to me is more in decline).
The only other way to force 4Kids to release them is an outright buying of stock. (4Kids is on the NYSE, right?) |

IMO, they shouldn't have coddled the series. And, they made some dumb desicions.
Case in point: They changed 'Ren' into 'Lenny'. Sure, what with the Japanese pronunciation of R or L, it's acceptable, but this, along with giving him a british accent when his family is clearly Chinese is stupid--they make him look sorta dumb. Apart from that, I didn't get to see too much of it, so I don't have too many complaints on it. |

But the smart kid with the rich family ALWAYS has a British accent! </sarcasm> Although in all fairness, his father called him 'Len' in the Japanese (I don't know if they were trying to mimic 'Lian' (his Mandarin Chinese name) or if the guy just felt like saying it weird, because he was Ren to everyone else, even Jun.) What really made me laugh, though, was that Lyserg, who was a self proclaimed Brit, had no accent, and Ren was the one using all the British slang and everything. Too much x) And at least it's better than what they did to Ryu. I still have nightmares sometimes....-hides- |

True, most of the subtitles in the Shaman King uncut Dvds were mostly dubtitles, but occationaly, they did say a few swear words like" Damn"
as for the Dub, Shaman King was'nt as nearly as badly raped as Onepiece and Tokyo Mew Mew,sure they altered a few voices and changed a few names here in there like Changing Hao to Zeke X_X or Giving Ren a british accent, and Changing Ren's Father En Tao to Ren's Uncle or Changing Horohoro to Trey Racer. However,4Kids did occationally leave in some blood like in Yoh and Ren's first fight in episode 3. unlike they're Tokyo Mew Mew and Onepiece dubs, 4kids did'nt skip or merge any episodes of Shaman King. What I call Rape is when you completely alter the Entire Story,cutting Relationships,arcs,merging episodes,altering personalities greatly like what Nelvana did with Cardcaptor Sakura X_X |

When you think about it, though, it's not like there's all that much swearing to edit out in the first place. I think the worst of it is Ren refering to everyone as 'Bastard!', and then there's a couple scenes in the last few episodes where everyone's pissed at spoiler[Hao] because he spoiler[killed Yoh.] Even the fansub version (and fansubs usually step up the swearing quite a bit) only had "damn" a couple times, not counting the end, and even there, most of the swearing was from Ren. I think most of the censorship was concentrated on removing blood and putting towels and underwear on everyone, and laming up what were some actually very well excecuted puns in the sub. Although I can't help but wonder at the few things they left in, like the fact that Marco is obviously a pedophile, and Hao's sexual ambiguity. It was toned down, sure, but still. I don't understand why Hao had to get his name changed, though o.o Still, I agree that 4Kids has done far worse. The SK dub I at least sat through; One Piece made me cry. |
