Hey all, there's a great weekly column on the "Comics Should Be Good!" blog at Comic Book Resources called "Comic Book Urban Legends Revealed." Last week's column spotlighted everyone's favorite pint-sized anime superhero, Astroboy! Check it out here:

There's some pretty interesting stuff there, including the last one about spoiler[Japanese broadcasts of Astro Boy being Japanese subtitles laid on top of the English dub. What a tragedy that those tapes are lost!]

Mushi declared that, since they were going through bankruptcy, they could not receive the copies. Therefore, NBC simply burned them.

Insert picture of forumgoers bashing head through computer screen, while angrily screaming "CURSE YOU, NBC!!!" as their shocked brain fluid slowly dribbles through keyboard frets, here. That could just be me, though. Anime hyper

Well, that would certainly explain why the DVDs contained no sub version. Don't you hate it when this happens/ed? (Doctor Who is my favourite example.)At least they didn't burn the dubs... but still...

I read on a website the other day that “At last, the 1948 Show”, a pre-Monty Python show has no copies available in England. Someone found 5 episodes of the series in Sweden.

But the episodes found were released on DVD. Just thought I'd mention it. So was 'Do Not Adjust Your Set', actually.

There was a Doctor Who serial (The Daemons) that featured on Tomorrows World as the only two copies that were found were a black and white master and a poor quality colour VHS taped of the TV. They used some technical gimmickry to combine the two into a decent colour version.
