I posted a similar question over on another forum I belong to, but I might also get some ideas/responses here, too.
I have a question about running/hosting a panel at a convention? I've gotten the crazy idea that I would like to run a panel at Anime Weekend Atlanta XIV in 2008. I've located the requirements on their forums. Has anyone had to estimate the size of their panel's audience to get it approved? How did you go about doing that? Did you estimate what similar panels drew in or did you come up with just some number that if they downsized or upsized your room, it wouldn't be an issue? That's the only requirement I'm having trouble working with to get the event approved. I don't expect a large number of people because of the subject matter (sports anime) and it'll be my first time hosting. Aside from the actual requirements, what sort of preparation did you put into your panel? I know the format will be almost "lecture"-like, where I'll talk about the subject and show some clips I've assembled but aside from the order that we'll go in and getting the clips matched together, how much real preparation is involved or should be involved? Should I rehearse lines or points I want to make, what (if any) notes should I make available to myself? Any help from experienced panel hosts would be appreciated or even tips to successful panel audience members of what panels you've seen do very well or end horribly in Hindenburg-like disasters? All of the panels I can seriously remember going to were pretty well done, aside from technical issues (which I'll try to work out as best I can before hand). But that's also my opinion, so I'd like to hear some others. Any and all help is appreciated! |
