I apologize in advance if this is a repeat thread, but i searched and failed in finding anything significant relating to it. Anyhow, I have never posted before and I've been a member of ANN for some time now, but wow.. After watching the first episode of this anime I was expecting a drama, but I was surprised to find out how dramatic it was. I personally like the ending because this was the first time I didn't like the main character of an anime. However, I am not that dark of a person, I would most prefer something less extreme. I don't think I ever expected the plot to lead to something this twisted. spoiler[ In the most extreme scenario I was expecting suicide attempts by either of the main girls, but not murder. I thought Katsura was eventually going to kill herself, not turn into the mentally unstable person she apparently was.]

As for the anime as a whole, I am not to sure how to state whether or not I liked it. I do enjoy being surprised and challenged in determining the ending, but this I feel was far "outside the box." Also, I enjoy things being close to realistic, more so when involving a non-fantasy oriented genre. Then again, on the news spoiler[ you will see people murder others of love betrayals. I just have a hard time believing there is so much "evil" (lack of a better adjective) can exist within a seeming friendly high school.] Though, that is most likely the aspect the creator was trying to show. Though, now that I've sorted my thoughts and stopped arguing with myself, I would like that say that I do think this is a really great anime at the same time. Because of what I said earlier in the "spoiler" it can be somewhat realistic. And thinking about it from a non-outside judging perspective, it was interesting to see how the characters grew into what they became. Bad things happen and not everything can be controlled. People do let situations get the best of them. But, it is how they respond and adapt through this time period. In this anime, you can see how the characters spoiler[ develop into the more negative aspects when involved in these situations of love and lust.]

To conclude, I just merely wished to share my thoughts. I have never been so baffled by an anime before now. I'm sure there are others out there that are more extreme than this, but this is the first one I've watched that made me want to write about it. Again I repeat, I never would expect something as twisted as this to happen and I am still slightly shocked by it.

--As for feedback, I am most interested to hear what others thought about this anime. I don't mind being flamed or whatever the term being presently used. I would like to hear anything and everything you guys think about this anime or what I've written.

There is a thread, but it is a bit buried.

School Days is interesting in that it provides a change of pace from the typical upbeat high school romance anime. It's not very often you see so the negative traits of a young set of characters vastly outweigh the good. I found if increasingly difficult to watch after episode 6, not because it was bad, but because the characters inspired such loathing on account of the cruel betrayal of friendships and trust. The only character I still liked when it was over was Kokori, the island of naive innocence amid the sea of selfish teenagers.

Here is the series discussion thread. I had to manually look through the last 5 pages though, as the forum Search tool didn't pick it up for some reason.

I would have to agree with that too. I do believe out of all the chaos there was some innocence that existed. I find what you said is also true about Taisuke Sawanaga. Though he seems more perverted, he also filled that naive innocence position. He would be one of the characters that I actually had enjoyed to the extent of not living in complete corruption of instability.

This is the kind of situation where the anime discussion threads index comes in handy. I don't think it's exhaustive, but it's pretty comprehensive. I'm not sure why the search function can't search for titles only. It's particularly annoying for this forum, where series discussions tend to be unified under a single discussion thread, and the title usually contains the name of the series.

The game upon the series was based is actually quite famous for the ending. If you take a look at the old discussion topic, by page one people were talking about how it was going to end, and a lot of the posters took it for granted that the viewers know as well and didn't bother to mark the spoilers. I was rather fortunate in that I avoid spoilers like a plague and did not read any of the discussions until I had finished the series. In that respect, I approached it with a fresher mind than most.

The result? I retained hope for the main characters for longer than Dorcas_Aurelia. Although Makoto was spoiler[one of the most unlikable leads in these types of shows by episode 2,] I kept hoping that spoiler[he and Sekai would do the right thing and end the relationship properly.] It wasn't actually until episode 10, when spoiler[he approached Otome for the second time,] that I gave up all hopes. The ending actually left me physically shaking, since I didn't know in advance the reputation of the game.

I liked the series quite a bit, mostly becuase it broke the mold and did unexpected things that surprised me. I knew going into it that spoiler[it ended violently] since I saw the reports here of the last episode being cut. spoiler[I didn't expect that the main character would beome a total jerk and sleep arround with all the girls though] and I certainly did not expect spoiler[to be happy when sekai stabbed him to death only to be set up and killed by Katsura who'd gone completely bats*** insane.] At any rate the end of the series is some of the most emotionally powerful stuff I've ever seen in anime.

If that weren't enough, a month or two later I saw the DVD version of the last episode....

spoiler[it's amazing how much of a change extending the stabbing scenes a little bit, coloring the blood the right color, and adding more sound effects had.] Shocked
