So if anyone here in the forums are from Canada, you'll problably know the lack of anime. I'd like to know your opinions on this so that I Know I'm not the onl one who's a bit angry about this.

I spend alot of timing reading up on a series/film and then end up ordering them. I don't let the "small, niche market" or "lack of air-time" thing get in the way. That level of angst and frustration takes effort. My way just takes lots of money. |

Well, there's always Zannen, Canada.
I can get the majority of anime I want at HMV, Metro Video, DVD Passion or Archambault. Some things I still haven't really seen in Montreal stores are the non-Dragonball or Yuu Yuu Hakusho FUNimation DVDs like Fruits Basket, Pioneer/Geneon's release of the subtitled Cardcaptor Sakura, and much of AnimEigo's output, especially Urusei Yatsura and Kimagure Orange Road, though that's beginning to change with Macross and You're Under Arrest making it onto store shelves here late last year, and, yesterday, I spotted the DVD of the first Urusei Yatsura movie, Only You, at HMV. (Previously, the only Urusei Yatsura film available in mainstream stores here was Beautiful Dreamer, which was distributed by Central Park Media/U.S. Manga Corps.) And, getting anime DVDs for below $40 Canadian in mainstream stores used to be damn near impossible, but now I can get pretty much any ADV or Central Park Media DVD for below $30 Canadian, and the Manga and (yay!) AnimEigo DVDs are around $25. (Of course, this is all before the 15% combined general and provincial sales taxes I pay here in Quebec, but, still...) |

Well, I'm not from canada. This is where the internet is good. You can buy the anime you want to see off the internet.

Yeah, but not all of us have credits cards (at least not anymore), so I'm limited to buying locally for the time being.

I dont have a credit card either. I buy all my anime with a money order.

Well, I used to buy stuff with money orders in the old days, when I could hardly buy much of anything anime-related locally, but that's just another extra charge. These days, if I can't buy it locally, I just do without.

I don't watch anime on TV because of the lack of chanels showing the anime I want to see. Pokemon is great and all, but....
I order my anime from amazon.ca, since their prices are pretty good and free shipping! They also tend to ship faster than what their site says. I was told my manga would arrive in mid January, and it arrived at the end of December. I find it's cheaper to order online than to buy from HMV and other stores. I wish I got Cartoon Network up here. Does anyone know if it is available at all in Canada? It sure isn't on my cable. |

Interesting. I'm sure that there are more than three anime being broadcast here. YTV is currently showing Astroboy, Beyblade, Digimon, Dragonball, DBZ, DBGT, Hamtaro, Inuyasha, Knights of the Zodiac, Medabots, Pokemon, Transformers: Armada, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Zoids.
The article does mention YTV, and in doing so does contradict itself.

Although the article does have a point. I just love pointing out things like that. Our anime my not be satisfactory, but we do have better TV access to it than Iraq. Edit: This same regulation for TV stations having to meet the Canadian content quota is also applied to radio stations. Due to the lack of Canadian music artists (compared to American ones), this results in some music getting over played. This results in people getting sick of the Canadian artist and may hurt the artist as a result. Just something I wanted to point out. |

It's the same in England. I could make a VERY long list about all the anime shows that I miss, and will probably never see on T.V., like Berserk and FLCL.
I've resorted to buying everything off Amazon, and even then, a lot of things are on import. The sad thing is, the only anime on T.V. are awful children's cartoons, like Sonic X and Yu-Gi-Oh(which is actualy pretty good). Oh well, maybe one day... |

At least the UK has the Toonami channel airing The Big O and .hack//SIGN this year, and ADV UK pumping out old and new titles like there's no tomorrow.
Unlike Canada, the UK market isn't constrained by ridiculous restrictions. It can grow, has room to do so, and very likely will over the next year. Expanding the anime market in Canada, however, would require violent riots. That's why we're so loud. The CRTC page on my website is indeed out of date, but at the time there was more anime in Iraq than in Canada. Most 4Kids and Nelvana properties are broadcast in the Middle East, and with Future Boy Conan airing at the time, Iraq had at least one on us. And for the record, Berserk never aired on TV in the US either. |
