About Ken Akamatsu's new manga, Magister Negi Magi.
Simple question. Do you hate it, love it, or are indifferent towards it? And I swear, if I see one comparison to Love Hina or A.I. Love You, I'm going nuclear.

Then perhaps you should start a meltdown now?
Let's face facts, when reviewing a book, novel, etc. it's very common to review other titles by the same author. Considering how visually representative it is, it's even more prevalant in reviewing manga.
While I enjoyed the first volume in some ways, and this may be due it having a larger cast, I felt the story telling was weak. The character designs are nice enough, but it does feel like some of the personalities were "ripped" out of his other works.

I would actually like to see a comparison to his other stuff. I feel that Love Hina is mediocre, and AI is poor, but I have heard nothing but great things about Negima. Then again most people said great things about LH.

That's true, but you could just as easily reference a work in the same genre. And as Ken Akamatsu always leans towards the harem-side of things, I don't want people to rant about, "This is garbage! This is the same crap that made Love Hina a piece of trash! Blah blah blah this character is an exact copy of so and so, Ken Akamatsu is a hack, blah blah blah [insert more nonsensical whining here]" Know what I mean? And as for the storytelling, I like a nice, slow paced story. And it being a manga about school, it's almost like slice-of-life, except with a magical twist.

Funny about the chronology there. A.I. Love You was his first major work, which you said was poor. Love Hina was his sophomore series, which you said was mediocre. And now you've been hearing nothing but great things about Magister Negi Magi. So in your opinion, Ken Akamatsu is getting better and better? Cool. Anyways, most people said great things about Love Hina because it WAS great. =T

Right now, I am utterly indifferent toward the thing. But that is because of I feel that for all his advances in artwork (still too cluttered), Akamatsu has not yet been able to pull off his variation on a theme with enough originality.

Love Hina was much better that AI, but still was far from being great, with its subpar storytelling and repetative, stupid humor. I'm sure some of those elements will be present in Negima, but I heard from someone on this board (forgot who) who hates Love Hina say its good.

Well sometimes it's not always about storytelling. What I got from Love Hina was a lot of character development, especially in Motoko's case. And after reading Negima vol. 2, it seems that it's going to be chock-full of character development, and me likey . And it's also damn entertaining.

I'm liking Negima a lot, I've laugh at every page. Although I didn't laughed as hard as I did when I was reading Love Hina but it's still good.

It only has volumes 1 and 2 'cause only volumes 1 and 2 have been released in America. Personally, I like it. Somewhat different than Love Hina, and I haven't read A.I., but Negima is good. I still do prefer Love Hina, but maybe not when more Negima comes out....

As you can tell by my previous posts im not what you'd call an Akamatsu fan. But finally I managed to borrow it off my friend and can say it is a satisfying read. The characters are much more likeable and less annoying, and the story is told better and with more flair. I can say its a good read and look forward to leaching it off my friend in the future.

Ahh, the joys of mooching off of one's friend. ::sighs with a smile:: Ain't it great. Slackers with rich, nice friends rejoice!

I have the first two volumes and I think it's hillarious.
The relationship between Negi and Asuna is confusing. I mean their relationship right now seems to be a sibling relationship but there are also many hints that might show a potential romance. At the end of VOl.1, Akamatsu says "that they're both like brother and sister which is odd for a love comedy". So that means they're just Brother and Sister?
Anyway, when's the 3rd volume coming out? I looked at the preview in Vol. 2 and there's going to be a big fight in the 3rd vol.
