I've done it plenty. I did it with FLCL and I did that with The Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy. Both were good, succesful purchases.
Also, could you fix your topic name so it makes a bit more sense? When I first took a look at this I thought you had a question about the CD Blue.

Look at your first post in this thread. Next to the "Reply" and "Quote" buttons there should be an "edit" button.
Click the edit button and you can change the title. You can leave it if you prefer, but it would avoid less confusion. If your still having trouble, check out ANN's help FAQ in the forums or PM me.

Yeah, no kidding. I was confused myself. Something along the lines of “Impulsively buying anime” should be ok.
I’ve done it myself on occasion. This month alone, I purchased about $120 worth of anime. Not all were impulse buys, but I did pick up 'Excel Saga Imperfect Collection' out of the blue. I’m not sure if that was a smart choice though.

I do it all the time. Often even without a review--often just the Newtype article which is often just a couple pix with the names of the characters. I hadn't seen most of the 250 titles in my collection prior to buying them. The title looks interesting, the price is low enough, the extras are good.....I paid $5 for Twin Signal without knowing a thing about it & it was worth $5. When they were clearing out VHS tapes for $1, I bought tons & several-Nazca in particular, were very good. Eight Clouds & Guardian of Darkness I just got this month without knowing a thing about them beyond the pitch blurb & both are good. Same with Spirit Warrior, except that was April's mystery purchase.
I gave up on reviews years ago, so I've pretty well learned what I like in a show by the subject matter alone.
Excel Saga is great--it was one of my random purchases. It seems people like FLCL or Excel better--FLCL is surreal tho a bit more standard Ping Pong club-type teen sex romp humor, Excel is wicked satire-the movie Airplane in anime form(jokes thrown at the audience in the belief everyone will get some of the jokes even if they don't get others).
Ping Pong Club is closest to a teen summer movie-American Pie style.
So you'll love Excel unless you aren't into satire. the premise is the manga artist Koshi Rikdo gives his permission to turn his manga, Excel Saga, into various types of shows-horror, sci-fi blockbuster, animal tale, all-girl ratings grabber...& then each ep spoofs that genre. The plot of taking over the world is largely ignored for most of the show beyond the excuse each "mission" is meant to advance their take-over

I bought the first two discs of Full Metal Panic! while only having ANN user ratings and some reviews to go on. Right now, I'd say that FMP! is one of my favorite series.

That explains a lot. Normally, I would look at reviews or read a small synopsis of a particular title. But, in the case of Excel Saga; it was cheap and affordable ($49) and a friend of mine gave it his recommendation.
I’ve seen the first three episodes so far, and it’s ok. It’s amusing, but it’s not ‘laugh out loud’ funny. Don’t get me wrong, I love comedic satire as much as the next guy, but it hasn’t impressed me thus far.
Also, I make bad impulse purchasing decisions on manga. I’m not going into detail on which titles I’ve actually bought, but I made some really bad choices. Manga is something I would never buy without reading a review of some kind ever again.

I bought "The Soul Taker" out of the blue once, volume 1. I watched it and kind of liked it, but I was more into video games at the time, so I traded it in along with some other DVDs I didn't care too much and got some store credit for Dynasty Warriors 3.
I would like to start watching Soul Taker again sometime, but I'm kind of in the middle of paying my parents back for "advanced spending" .

Occasionaly when I am at Bestbuy or something along those lines I will just pick something up. I did this with Dai-Guard and Full Metal Panic! and enjoyed both. Infact I love FMP. I have all the volumes and I am currently reading the manga. Also I had heard of Excel Saga's box was coming out and I had never seen it so when I was buying some music at Bestbuy I picked up the box.

Well, like I said in many previous threads, there just isnt enough anime DVDs in Poland. But I guess I did download some anime without researchign anything about it.
Shaman King would be one example. I found the first episode on DC++ and the title intrigued me. So I got it and really liked it. It was the biggest series I d-l at that time.
I really like getting an anime I dont know. It gives me a sort of thrill.
