Other serious animes?

What other animes are there like the Kenshin OVA'S? What i mean is what other animes fit into the same genre, have a good story and is kind of like kenshin?

Kino's Journey. Possibly any anime based on a novel. Also Ghost in the Shell.

Wow, you set a pretty high bar by wanting something like Tsuioku-hen. If that's the case, then I suppose you're looking for another Meiji swordsman title. Unfortunately, aside from Kenshin I can't think of anything else as in depth.

Samurai Champloo is probably the closest thing, but it's way to comedic and light hearted in comparison to what you're wanting. Sorry, my knowledge of anime is quite limited... Anime catgrin + sweatdrop.

edit: I guess you mean samurai/ninja anime. The Blade of Kamui is really good.

It hasn't been released in America yet, but Otogizoushi looks excellent. It's a samurai action series by Production IG, and the bits I've seen of it were incredible. Very serious, and it had a great visual style to it. Definetly one to keep your eye out for when it gets released stateside. It has been liscensed, so the wait shouldn't be too long.

You might try the film Millennium Actress. It's got a deep, serious story that plays out against the dual backdrops of Japanese history and Japanese film. A masterpiece if ever there was one.

If you want serious anime, then I would recommend Metropolis. The animation is great, it has a beautiful story, and will keep your eyes glued to the screen. I've seen it 100-200 times. Never get tired of watching anything really...
