I love everything about this series. The battle that takes place in the bowling alley is one of my favorite battle scenes in recent animes. I think this is a very well done anime.

You are correct when you say that the backstory has 'just barely begun.' In fact, this volume marks the last time Takayanagi, Bob, Aya, and Souichiro have any meaningful role in the series. For the remainder of the series, they appear in a grand total of two episodes. All but two of the remaining episodes are the backstory.

It should be noted that the above statement is refering only to the TV series. The OVAs takes place in the present with Souichiro and the gang.

Which, in itself, wouldn't be a bad thing because the backstory is a very good story with very good characters - it's just that the anime somehow managed to screw up mostly everything. It's a word-by-word adaptation which makes it boring to those who have already read the story in the manga; the bright and cheery colors take away all grittiness and grimness (even though the story is a pretty grim and dark one); and the mostly totally unconvincing voice performances don't help at all. I can't help but feel that the seiyuu didn't put much energy into their roles, and it seems that even veteran ones like Hisakawa Aya, Ikeda Shuuichi or Morikawa Toshiyuki didn't really know what to do with their characters.

The TenTen anime was a big disappointment for me... no creativity (unless we count the pretty colors and the shininess), no originality, no nothing. :/ Which is a damn shame, really, especially when it comes to the backstory which is, in my opinion, the best part of the whole story. (Note: I haven't seen the whole series, so who knows, maybe it improves later on... I don't think it does, though.)

I'm stuck in the middle when it comes to this series. If you check your brain at the door and watch it for what it is, Tenjho Tenge is a fairly entertaining series. On the other hand, in terms of the storyline, I feel like I've seen this before. However, since I'm watching this as it's released by volume, there are still fifteen episodes to go, so who knows?

I will admit that I'm making my criticism based on the anime alone. I haven't read any of the domestic manga because of DC/CMX's boneheadedness, and scanlations of the series are pretty much gone.

If anyone gets anything out of this show it has to be Bomb A Head. Definatly one of the greaest openings ever. As for the series, I like it, but I hate that it just doesn't end. Even with the OAVs there still isn't anything resembling an ending to the series. Also, like what was said in the review, the 3 episodes a disc thing ain't cutting it. It wouldn't be so bad if there were plenty of good extras but it's got nothing. Frankly I do hope Geneon does better on the 4th DVD and by better I mean more episdoes and more extras.

I love it when Maya did her "finishing" move against that guy in ep.10 and says "Was that too much fanservice?" Very Happy

Anyway I thought the episodes were good leading up to the backstory which I think is really going to make things interesting from now on. I was dissapointed there was no bonus when I popped my DVD in the player. I hope there's something in the next release.

I think TenTen is a great show. I was very pleasantly surprised by it. The only thing that got on my nerves was the fact that things don't wrap up. Well prepare for each DVD release to be a tease for the next volume. There's always something more to the story and almost every episode leaves you with wanting to know what happens/happened next. It'll make waiting for each new volume very tough.
