Republican here. I don't read the manga or light novel versions but the anime is not pornographic.

I mean, in regards to Goblin Slayer, he's not wrong. It is graphic content of women being raped by demons and shouldn't be sold to minors.

Periodic reminder that if you're against such comic and manga bannings, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is a good organization to support. They're aware of this particular case and keeping an eye on it.

As for Goblin Slayer in particular, I'm not all that familiar with the series, but at least the manga version has warning labels. It's also wrongheaded to equate a dark fantasy series with an LGBTQ+ memoir. At any rate, Texas is gonna Texas no matter what Mad

I'm usually against pearl clutching like this but can't really say the series belongs in a middle/high school.

Agreed. Putting aside those who might get worked up over hearing the word "Republican" in any context, this series shouldn't be given to people under 18.

I mean while that is somewhat reasonable the problem with this logic is that some people seem to ignore the fact that kids under the age of 18 are generally going to become aware of things like sex and violence before they turn 18. Either through first hand experience or second hand accounts or a third party witness.

But even more bizarre some of these same people are fine with the idea of teaching or putting the Bible on school shelves despite some “issues” with said book.

A logical school wouldn't put books on shelves without doing their own review process and noting that the books do have age ratings on the back spines It seems like a nonissue.

Regardless of political views, he's not wrong. This is an R rated series and minors should not be reading this kind of content. As far as I know, R rated movies are not shown at schools either so neither should any form of R+ rated entertainment be allowed at school.

I agree, I wouldn't let my child read rape fetish stories before they were like 14 or 16

Ideally, that decision should lie with school librarians and not the state. A good librarian has a ton of resources to draw from these days, including for graphic novels. Punishing a book vendor because of some mature titles they carry (and which librarians do not have to buy) is definitely overkill.

At any rate, some of the other books they want to ban are probably the bigger issue. Given the mention of Gender Queer, imagine if they'd said Our Dreams at Dusk or My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness instead of Goblin Slayer.
