I was waiting so long for you guys to review this.

Honestly I love this a lot better than the first one. Even though it is nothing like Kite, it doesn't have little to hardly any connection to it, I think it surpasses it. Unfortunately, Liberator can't stand up against the fight scenes in the first one. But, everything else about it is amazing like the characters, the fight scenes, the look (even though I can't fairly compare it to the first, that one was made in the 90's), the music, and the English VA's. I think the voices match the characters personality, especially Monaka's english voice. Yeah that lip dub was annoying, but maybe that might have been due to the two to four day difference in release from Japan and America. And that ending, I hope they make another one. They need to make another one. That story was kind of wacky, mainly with that monster, but Umetsu is into the Sci-fi stuff. But its anime so most likely it will have a sort of a wacky story. I agree with the score that it was given here. Like the writer said most people would hate this, especially if their die hard fans of the original, but I recommend this. It's fun and amazing.

Geez, I knew it was going to be a piece of crap like Mezzo DSA. Umetsu must have suffered from some form of mind alteration (brain damage?) between 1998 and 2004.

Wow.

I may not watch this one now. I wouldn't want to spoil my memory of Kite's wonderfully horrid bleakness with some sort of geek circle-jerk masquerading under the same name.

Sounds like the usual type of anime that has potential to be one of the funniest dubs you could ever watch when you're not trying to get laughs out of watching a hentai Laughing I had thought that Sawa would come back, but if it's set ten years after the events of the original, then there's some things you can't bring back. Also, this is a bit more unrealistic than the first one. Maybe Umetsu made what he had always imagined his anime to be Confused

I find often sequels/spin offs that are many years after the original material generally do not compare to the original work. As time goes by artists change and so do their method of story telling and visualization. Sometimes it's for the better, sometimes not. I generally go into something like not expecting it to be on par with the original work, assuming the original work was even good to begin with itself. So if this does not live up to the original Kite I won't be surprised. I expect nothing more then a nice action flick with this and as long as it delivers on that note, as it seems it does, then I won't be that disappointed. I just bought it today when I noticed it so I'll probably watch it this weekend.

This one, unfortunately, was one of several titles that caught up in the time crunch over the Spring Preview Guide; otherwise it probably would have been out a couple of weeks sooner.

Although I agree with a lot of Justin's comments, I did not see the satirical aspect he mentions (perhaps I was too busy being disappointed by the lame plot developments to notice), and for that reason I'd personally rate it a step lower across the board. Looking back at it again with Justin's comments in mind, I can see that it probably wasn't meant to be taken too seriously, but I can also see how most fans would easily miss that on a first viewing.

Even if that is really the case, it's a problem. The original was such a dark and messy look at the visceral side of human nature (especially in the way it intertwined power, violence, and sex) that a sequel which goes all trippy does it a disservice. The lack of adequate explanation of anything gave me the impression that this was just the first of two parts, unless you operate on Justin's assumption that it not explaining anything is part of the point, since the full details don't matter.

As for Sawa, the movie implies that she is present but never firmly establishes that.

It's plot is post-modern, not bad.

????

So you're going to drop this point without mentioning how to find it?

EDIT: Never mind, I found it. You access it by clicking Left from the Play option on the main menu, which, if done right, should highlight one of the eyes of "Angel of Death" Monaka in red. What you get is apparently the original Japanese opener to Seirei no Moribito (aka Guardian of the Sacred Spirit), so it's sort of a hidden trailer.

Okay so just because the reviewer called it mindless crap. Okay if it's so pointless and weak, then why did you give it a B+? And not a C+?

Kite itself leans to towards being too meldromatic and violent. Of course it a has a "guilty pleasure" appeal to it. It was controversal when it was first released back in 1998 because it could'nt decide whether it wanted to be a hentai or an adult action flick(most the violence got often repetitive and the sex was almost entirely rape) As for the sequel I can't wait to see especially since it doesn't have a hentai rating. The fansubs are hard to find online so I'm hoping that "Kite Liberator" will be shown on Starz in a little while IF Media Blasters does give them the rights to show it.

I was AMAZINGLY disappointed in this film. The original Kite was a twisted, guilty pleasure, where this is goofy and awkward. It is very pretty to look at. Unfortunately, what you're looking at doesn't make any sense (when that monster regenerated, I was completely done!). And P.S., why is there a monster in Kite to begin with?!!! WHat the fudge!!!

Key said it was a step lower across the board from the first one. I think it fell down the whole flight of stairs on its face.

I enjoyed this film till the time ran out. After watching the OVA I went on ANN hoping to find information on a second volume. Sadly there is no second volume, which also means no real ending.

Hmm...I thought Sawa was going to be in it. I guess I'll have to rent it online, then.

What do you mean a second volume? That was it.
