Credibility of Wikipedia aside, wikipedia.org/wiki/Itaru_Kinoshita uses both "they" and "he/him"-type pronouns for the manga-ka. Unless the manga-ka ID as non-binary or gender-fluid, why do this?

It is as you say: Wikipedia (and all wikis in general) are unreliable because it can be edited and changed by anyone.

Mangaka tend to be very private and keep to themselves. It's rare to know what they look like, a lot of them use aliases instead of their real names, and in a lot of cases even their gender are unknown. I assume some parts of the article were written before people knew the mangaka was a man and used they and their to refer to him accordingly which is the grammatically correct way to write about someone if you don't know they're a man or woman. The parts that refer to him as a man were probably more recent additions made after it his gender was known and no one bothered to update the old paragraphs.

Wikipedia is not meant to be trusted, you are meant to use the sources listed for an article there if you are doing any real research and not just to get a casual overview of a subject.

A wonderful surprise of a manga this turned out to be! Rather than a park setting that just sets up for everything to go wrong, we get a functional zoo and we still get (realistic) conflicts with characters to get behind! The manga-ka did their research very carefully, including depicting the Dilophosaurus for what it really is (one literally can't go anywhere else without seeing this with frills even when it's not Jurassic Park-related). And I wouldn't have consciously thought of it on my own, but after reading this article I can definitely see the Patlabor connection.

We always default to they/them if the creator's gender isn't reliably or easily known or if they prefer that it is not known.
