I don’t understand the logic behind this. Just because there’s a diehard competitive scene for the game doesn’t mean that they would go and watch a movie of it. Also, does the game even have any story itself to be adapted?

Yeah, that's my thought exactly. I mean how is this any different from other Football films like for example, Friday Night Lights, Varsity Blues, etc... I don't understand this pitch for a movie adaptation for an old Tecmo football games.
Yeah, that's my first thought when I saw the headline and read the article and the premise of adapting a Tecmo American Football game into a film. I'm not sure if this will actually happen, I hope it get cancelled because I don't know how this will translate into a successful film or trying to become the next Friday Night Lights, or Varsity Blues. |

Will it be comedic or over the top? There might be a market for a football movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, especially through a bombastic Japanese lens.
