I’ve been recommending Milky Subway to all my friends, even those who aren’t that anime-adjacent.
(Deus-ex-)Makina’s jacket’s motto, “Dreaming of e-Sheep” is usually one of the teasers I drop, and it was ages before I realized that Chiharu’s sweater has a similar joke (Ghost in the Snail Shell).
The Japanese blu-ray comes with a pile of dubs (but no subtitles, sadly), which means people in blu-ray region A can enjoy the series — and the dub isn’t bad (though the Japanese actors are great).
Kameyama may be right that his humor works best in short snippets — I haven’t watched the collage version yet, so can’t say much about how it works in long-form.
I’m certainly looking forward to their next work.

I actually stumbled upon the web version before the film version on Netflix, and I think the vignette version feels just sliiiiightly punchier—I could definitely feel the intentional use of credits to give the audience room to breathe. That said, both versions are *very* good, and I *adored* how naturalistic the dialogue sounded! Thank you for this interview, it was so interesting to read where all these inspirations and influences came from!
