Seriously, no mention of Brittney Karbowski as Riful? I swear sometimes I wonder if the reviewers just gloss over everything. Rimuto has a couple of lines but Brittney Karbowski is mesmerising as Riful, the way she just delivers her lines and when Jean shouts out fudge you at her I definitely felt it.

Actually.. while it's true that Theron Martin (aka Key) does enjoy Claymore a bit and has written quite a few reviews, I think the timing is of the reviews in this case is because the new volume of the manga and the new volume of the anime came out around the same time.
But quite a few members of the staff have reviewed the series, it is true. Theron has reviewed both manga and anime releases, Carl reviewed a DVD of the anime, Bamboo reviewed the anime several times in her Shelf Life column, and Carlo has reviewed the manga in both a standard ANN review and his Right Turn Only! column. All that's left then is for Casey, Zac, and Justin to review part of the series. I'm fairly certain they are the only other staff members who do reviews, at least on occasion. I hardly ever see reviews from Justin, though, and even Zac's reviews are fairly rare. |

Claymore is probably one of the few series that I'm willing to pay for by singles at the moment, and that's saying something. It's very refreshing to see a current anime series with strong female characters. And just because they are female characters, it is also nice to see they have not been subject to out-of-place fan service moments. (not that I mind fan service, I would just not care for it with these particular characters)
As we see more of the the single digit warriors, their skills and abilities are quite impressive. Seeing how many of the Claymore in general were grouped together toward the end of this volume was quite cool too. The battles ahead should be quite interesting. Although they might not be perfect, I appreciate the voices given to most of these women as well. They help reinforce the strength of these characters. The only thing I don't care for is the amount of time I have to wait for the next volume.

I think this is the issue with nearly all dubs. it's great to see english distribution companies get more serious about the quality of their dubs. however, in just about every show, there is always at least one or two actors that are miscast or give a performance like they used to in the '90s. |

Not sure how you consider Laura Bailey speaking in her lower register to be a "miss." She had to go low, as it were, given the role. Personally, I love it when voices characters that require such a pitch. If only she were given more opportunities to do so. As for Riful, I liked Brittany in the role, but it's not like she outdid Nana Mizuki or anything. Still, I have to agree that the dub has been bit of a disappointment. From the rewrites, to the weak performances, it just hasn't matched the excellent effort put in by the Japanese by comparison. Still, there are some definite bright spots in the dub. To name a few: Rubel, Teresa, Galatea, and Helen are my favorites from the dub thus far. |
