Trivia:

Directly after this series, Gundam ZZ was made as a second season, although with a new cast and a totally different atmosphere.

Z Gundam's Timeslot, along with ZZ, and CCA are used in every "Super Robot Wars" game, not counting the "Original Generation" and "Spirits" series.

Paptimus Scirocco is named after Sirocco, a Mediterranean wind. Scirocco is also the name of a Volkswagen sports car built from 1974 to 1992. In the parody anime Mobile Suit SD Gundam, Scirocco's name is frequently ridiculed, as most Japanese people cannot pronounce it well. Scirocco is mispronounced as either "syrup" or torokko (the Japanese word for "cart").

The opening and ending theme songs use melodies from songs composed by Neil Sedaka: "Zeta - Toki wo Koete" is adapted from "Better Days Are Coming" from Sedaka's 1972 album Solitaire, while "Hoshizora no Believe" is based upon "Bad and Beautiful" from the 1976 album Steppin' Out. Additionally, "Mizu no Hoshi e Ai wo Komete" is derived from Sedaka's unreleased song "For Us to Decide".
