In one of the greatest ironies ever in anime, episode 24 aired on the same day that a real-life version of its climax scene was playing out online. (Look up "Codex Vahlda" for details on the real-life version.)
In Episode 3, one of the avatars of the forum posters looks like an altered version of "Cactuar" (a monster npc and a "Guardian Force" entity from the game series "Final Fantasy") that looks a bit fatter with different hair and wears black sunglasses.
In episode 4, the game's "Photon Sword" is also referred to by the names "Laser Blade" and "Beam Saber", which are references to energy swords from Toei's Space Sherriff franchise and Sunrise's Mobile Suit Gundam respectively. The sounds made by the Photon Sword are also those made by the Light Sabers from the Star Wars franchise.
In Episode 8, the guys cheering for Sinon, look like mock copies of "Heidern" from "The King of Fighters" arcade game and "Aang" from "Avatar: The Last Airbender".
