The Installer Device is designed after the junk gadget Amuro Ray received from his brain-damaged father Tem in Mobile Suit Gundam.
Machu and Tamaki's home closely resembles Misato Katsuragi's apartment in Neon Genesis Evangelion.
The gMS-01 Gelgoog shares nothing in common with the MS-14 Gelgoog of the main Universal Century timeline. Instead, it is the GQuuuuuuX timeline's version of the RGM-79 GM, as it is based on the Gundam stolen by Char Aznable. The Principality of Zeon's reverse-engineering of the Gundam resulted in the cancellation of Zeon's direct successors to the MS-06 Zaku II, such as the MS-07 Gouf and the MS-14 Gelgoog.
Challia Bull's quarters aboard the Sodon is designed exactly the same as that of Misato Katsuragi aboard the AAA Wunder in the Rebuild of Evangelion film series.
The Pegasus-class ship taken by Char's forces is rechristened Sodon. In the original Universal Century, a Sodon is a "space tug", or a type of support ship used by the Principality of Zeon to transport goods between colonies.
Shuji's robot companion Conch is inspired by Canti from FLCL.
The Amala Kamala Company is named after Amandara Kamandara, a character from Yoshiyuki Tomino's 1984 TV series Heavy Metal L-Gaim.
Challia Bull's mobile armor MAN-03 Kikeroga is this timeline's version of the MAN-03 Braw Bro from the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. It is named after the MSN-01 Kikeroga, a Zeon prototype mobile suit that was unused in the original series and only featured in video games such as Twilight of Zeon and SD Gundam G-Generation F.
In episode 1, Machu accesses a website called "Foolypedia", which is a reference to FLCL.
The whiteboard at the Pomeranians' hideout in episode 1 has words that reference past GAINAX works. "Daicon Film" was the name of the pre-GAINAX group that produced the Daicon III and Daicon IV opening films. "Vespa" is the scooter used by Haruko Haruhara in FLCL. "Fraternity" and "Exotic Maneuver" are terms used in Diebuster.
In episode 2, the title card and eyecatch sequences mirror those of the original Mobiie Suit Gundam series.
The dinner scene between Machu and Tamaki in episode 3 mirrors a similar scene between Alfred Izuruha and his mother in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.
Nyaan's password: "Hello. Are you in a hurry?" in episode 3 is the same one used by Miharu Ratokie in Mobile Suit Gundam.
In episode 4, Shiiko Sugai's Gelgoog bears the motto: "And Death Shall Have No Dominion", which is the title of a poem by Dylan Thomas, based on Romans 6:9 in the Holy Bible.
In episode 4, Shiiko Sugai'a hairstyle, trenchcoat, and red scarf are a nod to Ruriko Midorikawa from the 2023 film Shin Kamen Rider, which was written and directed by Hideaki Anno and co-produced by Studio Khara.
In episode 5, Machu shows an ad for a space glider called the "Yashima UL120S". Yashima Company is run by the family of Mirai Yashima from Mobile Suit Gundam.
The scene in episode 5 when Machu does a high jump at school copies a similar scene with Eri Ninamori in FLCL.
In episode 6, the import declaration form submitted by the Amala Kamala Company lists the cargo ship as the "Kobayashi Maru", which is the name of a simulation in the Star Trek franchise used to train Starfleet officers in a no-win situation.
In episode 6, the 100 hyte banknotes kept in Anqqi's safe bear the face of Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino circa 1978.
The restaurant Nyaan and Mahko eat at in episode 6 is based on an actual Chinese restaurant in Chinatown Bangkok, Thailand that has since been demolished.
The assault on Confeito (Solomon) scene in episode 8 mirrors the same camera angles of episode 5 of Gunbuster, when Noriko and Kazumi escort the decommissioned Exelion through the Space Monster formation near Jupiter 2.
Unlike in the Beginning movie, the scene in episode 8 when Char encounters a flash of light contains a brief vision of Lalah Sune, whom this version of Char never met.
In episode 8, Char's last words: "I can see time" before disappearing into the Zeknova are the same ones used by Lalah Sune before she was killed in episode 41 of Mobile Suit Gundam.
In episode 10, the destruction of the A Baoa Qu fortress and its fleet by Zeknova mirrors that of that of the Space Monster forces in episode 5 of Gunbuster after the Exelion's Degeneracy Reactor is detonated, while the final implosion is similar to that of the Black Hole Bomb in episode 6 of that series.
The scene in episode 11 when Kycilia Zabi confronts a disguised Char in an empty theater is a copy of a similar scene in episode 50 of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, when Haman Karn confronted Quattro Bajeena (also a thinly disguised Char) and Paptimus Scirocco.
In episode 12, the title is taken from Yoshiyuki Tomino's 1981 autobiography That's Why I Am..... on the Path to "Gundam" (だから僕は…「ガンダム」への道).
