Trivia:

The title is taken from a long stretch of Tokyo's Shuto Expressway known as "Wangan" ("Bay Side"), and "Midnight" being the name of the nightclub Akio Asakura works at over the weeknights.

The Devil Z is a first-generation Nissan Fairlady Z S30 (Datsun 240Z in international markets) with an L28 engine swap. The motor has been bored and stroked from a displacement of 2.8 liters to 3.1 liters. The addition of twin turbos gives the engine an output of over 620 horsepower.

Tatsuya's Blackbird is a modified Porsche 911 Turbo, which is depicted in the manga and anime as the second-generation 964 model (1989-1993). On the international release of the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune arcade game series, the Blackbird is depicted as a Nissan 350Z due to copyright restrictions on the use of the Porsche 911 and its likeness.

In all the Wangan MIdnight video games, the Blackbird is ALWAYS portrayed using various tuned Porsches. In the arcade and PS2 game "Wangan Midnight R", it was represented by the RUF Yellowbird (tuned 930 series 911 Turbo). In the original Japanese iterations of the Maximum Tune series, it is represented by the Gemballa 3.8RS (Tuned 964-series 911 C2 with 3.8L non-turbo flat-6). In the PS3 WM game, it's represented by the RUF CTR (tuned 964-series 911 Turbo)
