Natsume's Book of Friends' Nyanko Made with Rose Petals

Video: Readers lay out petals from 2,000 roses for giant art at a Tokyo plaza

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Hakusensha's LaLa shōjo manga magazine, Hakusensha held an event to create an infiorata (flower art) of Natsume's Book of Friends' feline character Nyanko-sensei on August 19. Readers of the magazine put together the infiorata by hand at the fountain plaza in Ikebukuro's Sunshine City complex in Tokyo during "LaLa Summer Festival." The petals from about 2,000 roses were used to create the work.

LaLa is currently streaming a video of the readers and staff assembling the flower art.

Nyanko-sensei appeared in July on promotional posters for the Hitoyoshi Hot Springs, which featured the cat in scenes from hot springs and famous places near Hitoyoshi in the southern Japanese prefecture of Kumamoto.

Viz Media is publishing the Natsume's Book of Friends manga in North America. A third season of the anime adaptation is currently airing in Japan, and Crunchyroll is simulcasting the show outside of Japan.
