Ender's Game Actor Compares Character to Shinji Ikari

posted on by Bamboo Dong
Asa Butterfield talked to Japanese reporters about his love for Evangelion, and comparisons between Ender and Shinji.

At the world premiere of Ender's Game, which took place October 28 at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, Japanese reporters had the chance to talk to the film's star Asa Butterfield, who plays Andrew "Ender" Wiggin.

During the interview, Butterfield told reporters that he's enjoyed anime and manga from a young age, adding, "Personally, I think I'd really like to go to Japan. It'd be good if I could go next year."

Regarding his favorite anime, he said:

The anime I like most is Evangelion. I feel the character I play, Ender, has things in common with Shinji Ikari, the main character of Evangelion. In general, he withdraws from the world, and he fights unknown enemies. Shinji has to pilot Evas, but in Ender's case, they're replaced with a simulation room. Both characters have new experiences.

Ender's Game, the film adaptation of Orson Scott Card's novel, will be released in North American theaters on November 1.
