Twitter Criticizes Variety Show's Male Entertainers for Rude Behavior at Sailor Moon Café

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The episode of NTV's Hirunandesu! variety program that aired on Wednesday featured a segment in which four male entertainers visited a limited-time Sailor Moon café. The cafe is running at Q-pot CAFE. Omotesando in Shibuya, Tokyo until August 19. The performers who visited the café for the program were comedy duo Audrey members Masayasu Wakabayashi and Toshiaki Kasuga, comedy duo Heisei Nobushi Kobushi member Takashi Yoshimura, and actor Yūki Furukawa.

As participants in a variety show, it was expected that the four men would make jokes to create an entertaining program for audience members. However, some Twitter users think that their behavior went too far and was rude.

When Kei Fukuchi appeared in the segment, the entertainers made remarks such as "Strange person!" and "You're male, right?" The 33-year-old worker described himself as a Sailor Moon fan for more than 25 years, and he served as an attendant for the entertainers during their visit to the café.

After Fukuchi introduced himself, Wakabayashi said, "There was a catchphrase, right? Can you do it for us?" The entertainers teased Fukuchi after he performed Sailor Moon's signature phrase "In the name of the moon, I will punish you!"

Fukuchi gave the men the collaboration café's Moon Healing Parfait, which they inspected and ate. The parfait is made of cherry yogurt cream, lemon cream, custard cream, corn flakes, and various toppings, and it is inspired by Sailor Moon's Moon Stick.

When the entertainers asked about what was on top of the parfait, Fukuchi explained that it was the moon and Silver Crystal. Yoshimura said, "What are you saying?," and the other men made remarks such as "He asked what the ingredients are!" They had a similar exchange regarding the moon on the parfait. Similarly, when Kasuga and Wakabayashi received the café's Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss Berry Latte, they said "Give me a break." and "So sweet!"

Fukuchi also asked the men quiz questions. He asked what enemies say after Sailor Moon uses the Moon Healing Escalation and Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss moves. All of the men gave nonsense joke answers and laughed after Fukuchi told them the correct answers, even saying "Enough is enough!." The entertainers also made a parody scene pretending to be delinquents while using the Sailor Moon dialogue.

Though some of the other café guests obligingly laughed at the male entertainers' antics, many online commenters were less amused. They believe the men's actions were boorish, disrespectful, and mocking. One Twitter user said, "The performers' and male idol's attitudes were the absolute worst, and I really feel sick." Another said, "That seriously make me sick. I won't watch Hirunandesu! ever again."
