posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Participants in Jump SQ.'s monthly Jump SQ. RISE Shinjin Manga Shō (Jump SQ. RISE Newcomer Manga Prize) contest will receive the "Jump SQ. Master Bible." The magazine's manga creators are contributing to the guide.
The booklet will feature a prologue, five regular chapters, and an epilogue with manga-writing advice from 14 manga creators. In the prologue, Prince of Tennis manga creator Takeshi Konomi discusses the secrets of character making, and Twin Star Exorcists creator Yoshiaki Sukeno discusses in detail the production process from character creation and plot to finishing. The first chapter deals with the techniques used in storyboards from Shō Aimoto, Amyū, Takaya Kagami and Daisuke Furuya, Ryōma Kitada, and Nobuhiro Watsuki. Blue Exorcist creator Kazue Katō talks about creating rough sketches in the second chapter.
In the third chapter, Aimoto, Amyū, Takeshi Obata, Kitada, Ryōsuke Takeuchi, and Hikaru Miyoshi discuss inking. Obata, Katsura Hoshino, Amyū, Miyoshi, and Watsuki cover finishing manuscripts in the fourth chapter. The fifth chapter includes a summary of a course about digital manuscript creation from Trigun manga creator Yasuhiro Nightow. Finally, the epilogue features an interview with Katō about her thoughts on being a manga contest judge.
Amyū is the judge for the September installment of the Jump SQ. RISE Shinjin Manga Shō contest, and the admission period will close on September 4.
