Hello Kitty to Appear in Crayon Shin-chan's 1st Episode of Reiwa Era

Long-running children's television anime Crayon Shin-chan's first episode of the Reiwa era will air on May 10. The episode will feature the popular Sanrio character Hello Kitty.

The episode will be titled "Kitty-chan vs Burii-chan da zo!" In the episode, Hello Kitty will encounter an impersonator named Burii-chan. The episode will be set in Puroland, the Sanrio-themed indoor theme park. Hello Kitty and Crayon Shin-chan protagonist Shinnosuke will team up to save Puroland from the impostor.

Hello Kitty's anime appearance is the latest in a series of crossovers with Crayon Shin-chan. To commemorate Hello Kitty's 45th anniversary, the cute mascot has been collaborating with Crayon Shin-chan on crossover goods and an appearance in the March 2019 issue of the Shin Crayon Shin-chan (New Crayon Shin-chan) manga.

Producer Hiromi Nakaseko commented, "Please look forward to the striking collaboration between Shin-chan, Kitty-chan, and Burii-chan to start the new Reiwa era!"

The Japanese government announced on April 1 that the new Japanese era name when Crown Prince Naruhito accedes to the Imperial Throne will be "Reiwa" (令和), meaning "auspicious/excellent peace." The new era name will take effect on May 1, when Crown Prince Naruhito becomes the new emperor, after Emperor Akihito's abdication takes effect on April 30.

Godzilla appeared in Crayon Shin-chan in 2016 as a collaboration with the Godzilla Resurgence film.
