Man Shoplifts 80 Detective Conan Manga Volumes

A 26-year-old unemployed man was arrested in Suzuka city in Mie prefecture for allegedly shoplifting 80 volumes of the Detective Conan manga from a bookstore between April 10 to 13. The total value is estimated at 37,000 yen (US$334).

According to local police, customers noticed the man making suspicious movements in the store and notified the bookstore clerk. The clerk reviewed security camera footage and saw the man placing 10 to 20 books into his bags and then leaving the store.

The suspect allegedly told police that he "liked Detective Conan" and wanted to resell the manga for money.

Last year an unemployed man and a female middle school student were apprehended by Higashinada police in Hyogo prefecture after allegedly stealing over 100 manga volumes from a bookstore.
