Death Note's L spinoff film stays on top with estimated US$3 million

L change the WorLd, the live-action Death Note spinoff starring Kenichi Matsuyama (NANA, Sexy Voice and Robo, Detroit Metal City), stayed at #1 for its second weekend at the Japanese box office (February 16-17). It earned the equivalent of US$3 million on 398 screens for an international total gross-to-date of US$13.6 million. Unlike the first two Death Note films which were based on Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ooba's manga of the same name, this movie depicts a standalone mystery story set in 23 crucial days in the life of the genius detective L. Hideo Nakata (Ringu, Dark Water) directed this spinoff. No other anime/manga films appeared in Kogyo Tsushinsha's top ten chart for the Japanese box office this past weekend.
