Anime & Eco Environmental Mag Launched in Japan

Publication to raise awareness on ecology among children with anime characters

The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA) and Seibu Railway have launched a children's environmental awareness magazine called Anicco (Anime & Eco) on December 17. The Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsō) anime character appears in the inaugural issue of the 16-page, B5-sized magazine to explain the importance of the global environment. 50,000 copies have been published for distribution at every Seibu Railway station and the nearby facilities, local educational institutions via postal mail, the Tokyo Anime Center, and the Suginami Animation Museum.

The blog of the fictional "Editor Watanabe" from Sgt. Frog's story describes Sgt. Frog's Tuesday visit with the Japanese Minister of the Environment, Tetsuo Saitō, to unveil the magazine.

Update: Keroro's spelling corrected. Thanks, Pirokoro.
