Sachiko 3D demo by Animatrix's Morimoto this week; 2-3 yearly titles planned

The Japanese production company Lucent Pictures Entertainment has announced on Tuesday that it is forming a strategic alliance with the acclaimed anime company Studio 4°C to launch a new animation studio called Lucent 4°C (L4C). Through L4C, the two parent companies aim to announce their first joint project at the end of 2009. They project an eventual release slate of two to three titles every year.

L4C will showcase its "next-generation video techniques" at its two parent companies' booth in Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) this week. Technical demos, such as the Sachiko project that director Kōji Morimoto (The Animatrix, Genius Party, Memories) has been developing since 2005, will highlight L4C's combination of "animation footage + three-dimensional video techniques" at TAF.

Lucent Pictures was established in 2007 to acquire video and film adaptation rights for comics and other materials, develop original stories, finance projects, establish production committees, promote projects, and work on research into advanced video techniques. Studio 4°C is best known for creating or producing such anime works as Tekkonkinkreet, Mind Game, Genius Party, The Animatrix, and Memories.
