Japan's Sony PSP Manga Distribution Service Detailed

posted on by Egan Loo
Launches with 100 titles, including Doraemon, FMA, One Piece, Nodame, Eva

At its Tokyo Game Show press conference on Thursday, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) provided more details about the comic distribution service that it will launch in the PlayStation Store for Japanese PSP consoles in December. 11 publishers — Kodansha, Shueisha, Shogakukan, Square Enix, Hakusensha, the various Kadokawa Group publishers (Kadokawa Shoten, ASCII Media Works, Enterbrain, Fujimi Shobo), Bandai Visual, and Futabasha — will supply about 100 titles for the service's launch. The PlayStation Store is creating a new "Comic" category to accommodate the service.

The Japanese service's lineup will feature Doraemon, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece, Nodame Cantabile, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. At its Tokyo Game Show booth this week, Square Enix is already demonstrating the manga distribution service with Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, Dragon Quest Saga: Emblem of Roto Complete Edition,
Sumomomo Momomo, Mahōjin Guru Guru, and Nangoku Shōnen Papuwa-kun. If and when similar services roll out in other countries, they will not necessarily share the same titles.
