Usagi Yojimbo Creator Stan Sakai Interviewed

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

Dark Horse Comics posted an in-depth interview with Usagi Yojimbo creator Stan Sakai on Wednesday. The interview focuses on the 25-year anniversary celebration event of Usagi Yojimbo with the first-ever full-color Usagi Yojimbo graphic novel, Yokai. Dark Horse will release Yokai in November.

In the interview, Sakai, a Japanese-American, discussed the making of Yokai, the differences in working in black and white and working in color, fan contributions, and the inspiration he drew from Osamu Tezuka's works and also European works.

Sakai comments on what inspired him to keep returning to Usagi Yojimbo for 25 years, and how he sees the series continuing from now on.

Dark Horse also recently teamed up with LA-based clothing label The Hundreds to release two sets of limited-edition T-shirts to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series.
