Tokyo Game Show Draws Record 222,600, Lists 2012 Dates

posted on by Egan Loo

Over the course of four days, this year's Tokyo Game Show recorded about 222,600 visits* — a record for the video game convention. The previous high was 207,600 last year at the same Makuhari Messe center in Chiba. Mainichi Shimbun's Mantan Web site credited the buzz for the PlayStation Vita for contributing to the attendance increase of nearly 20,000.

The all-time one-day attendance record is still the roughly 86,200 people that came on Saturday (the third day of Tokyo Game Show and the first day open to the public). Still, about 83,700 came on the show's last day on Sunday.

The floor opened at 9:30 a.m. (30 minutes ahead of schedule) on Saturday, but the lines at the Sony Computer Entertainment booth for PS Vita demos still closed in just 30 minutes. Similarly, the 1,200 tickets for Monster Hunter 3 (tri-) G demos at Capcom's booth did not last one hour. Visitors had to wait one to three hours for games at other booths.

Tokyo Game Show will return to Makuhari Messe September 20-23, 2012.

* A person who came to all four days of Tokyo Game Show would be counted four times, under the tallying system it uses.
