Madman Entertainment holds Free Cinema Screening of Rurouni Kenshin

Madman to hold a free screening of the live-action Rurouni Kenshin film at the end of March as part of their cultography screenings series in Melbourne.

Madman Entertaiment announced through twitter and facebook that they will be holding a free screening at Cinema Nova in Carlton, Melbourne on Friday the 22nd of March at 10:30pm. If fans wish to reserve a free ticket they should visit Madman's event page here.

Keishi Ōtomo directed the samurai film with 22-year-old actor Takeru Satoh (Kamen Rider Den-O, Rookies, Beck, Ryōmaden) as the titular character. 17-year-old actress Emi Takei plays the heroine Kaoru Kamiya. Yū Aoi (Hana and Alice, Honey and Clover) plays Megumi Takani, Munetaka Aoki (The Last Message Umizaru, live-action The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) plays Sanosuke Sagara, and Taketo Tanaka plays Yahiko Myōjin. Kouji Kikkawa (Let's Dance With Papa) as Jine Udō, Yōsuke Eguchi (Shōnan Bakusōzoku, Tokyo Love Story) as Hajime Saitō, and Teruyuki Kagawa (From Up On Poppy Hill, 20th Century Boys) as Kanryū Takeda round out the cast.

When Rurouni Kenshin opened to Japanese cinemas on the 25th and 26th of August 2012 it earned 399,520,400 yen (close to $5 million AUD) and sold 295,319 tickets in those two days. Some theatres opened the film early between Wednesday the 22nd of August and Friday the 24th of August and the film's five day tally stands at 555,476,800 yen (AUD$6.89 million) and 424,143 tickets taking Rurouni Kenshin to the top of the Japanese box office and was estimated to have been seen over 2 million times in under 27 days.

Madman Entertainment was the first distributor to announce having licensed Rurouni Kenshin outside of Japan back in July 2012 and the film has since been licensed in over 60 countries.
