On November 20, police in Shimane Prefecture and Yasugi Station arrested a 39-year-old male Maritime Self-Defense Force member from Hiroshima Prefecture's Kure City on suspicion of using the Share file-sharing software to upload anime online without the copyright holders' permission. According to the Association of Copyright for Computer Software (ACCS), the suspect uploaded Black Jack The Movie sometime between July 17 and July 20. He is also suspected of uploading three other animated titles.

Security researchers have known about flaws in Share's anonymity features since 2006.
