Aoi Teshima to Perform Ronia the Robber's Daughter's Theme Song

3D CG series based on Astrid Lindgren's children's book to air in October

Singer and actress Aoi Teshima will perform the theme song "Haru no Sakebi" (Spring's Shout) for Goro Miyazaki's (Tales from Earthsea, From Up On Poppy Hill) upcoming television anime adaptation of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren's Ronia the Robber's Daughter children's fantasy book. Miyazaki is writing the lyrics, and Hiroko Taniyama is composing the song.

Teshima previously performed the theme songs for both of Miyazaki's other works: Tales from Earthsea and From Up On Poppy Hill. Taniyama also handled the insert song composition for both of those films. Teshima also performed an insert song for Kids on the Slope.

The NHK television program Doyō Studio Pack will broadcast the first footage from the upcoming series with Teshima's theme song on Saturday.

The series, titled Sanzoku no Musume Ronia in Japan, will premiere on NHK and BS Premium in October. Polygon Pictures (Knights of Sidonia, The Sky Crawlers) is animating the 3D CG series in collaboration with Studio Ghibli. The show will mark the first time that Miyazaki is directing a television anime series.

The story revolves around Ronia, the only daughter of Mattis, the chief of a tribe of bandits who live in a large castle in a forest. Ronia studies the ways of the mysterious creatures who live in the forest.

Hiroyuki Kawasaki (The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Sorcerer Hunters, Ryoko's Case File, Psychic Detective Yakumo) is handling the series composition. NHK Enterprise is producing the series, and NHK and Dwango are handling production and writing.
