Konami to Continue Making LovePlus, TokiMemo Games

Game franchises to continue despite departure of producer and character designer

Entertainment company Konami announced on their website on Wednesday that they will continue to make games in the LovePlus and Tokimeki Memorial series, despite the departure of Tokimeki Memorial and LovePlus producer Akari Uchida and LovePlus character designer Tarō Minoboshi (formerly Mino☆Tarō) from the company last Sunday.

The announcement acknowledged the worry of series fans, but noted that both LovePlus and Tokimeki Memorial are important properties for Konami, and that fans should look forward to further installments in the series.

The LovePlus franchise launched on the Nintendo DS in 2009, and sold at least 180,000 copies in half a year. The game has since spawned an enhanced LovePlus+ edition, New LovePlus for the Nintendo 3DS, a few mobile and arcade spinoffs, and at least five manga series.

The Tokimeki Memorial dating sim franchise launched on the PC Engine in 1994. The franchise has since spawned multiple sequels, ports, remakes, and spinoffs across multiple platforms, including the PC, various consoles and handheld systems, and mobile phones. It has also inspired at least two manga adaptations, as well as the 1999 2-episode OAV series Tokimeki Memorial (based on the first game of the series), the 2006 25-episode TV anime series Tokimeki Memorial ~Only Love~ (inspired by the Tokimeki Memorial Online game), and the 2009 OAV Tokimeki Memorial 4 Original Animation: Hajimari no Finder (inspired by the Tokimeki Memorial 4 game).
