Funimation Announces Psycho-Pass Film's Theatrical Dates

2015 film to run in 100+ theaters in N. America on March 15, 16

Funimation confirmed on Friday that it will screen the Psycho-Pass film in more than 100 theaters in the United States and Canada on March 15 and 16. Advance tickets will be available beginning on February 18.

The English dub cast includes:

Zach Bolton is serving as ADR Director, and John Burgmeier is the ADR head script writer. The dub's ADR script writers are Jared Hedges, Joel Bergen, and Alex Muniz. Cris George is serving as the lead ADR engineer.

Funimation describes the film's story:

In a futuristic Japan, the Sibyl System is charged with keeping the peace. Using extensive surveillance and biological monitoring to gauge the likelihood that individuals will commit a crime, the police are able to use weapons called Dominators to remove potential criminals from the population before they become a problem. Confident with the success of the System within their own borders, the Japanese government has begun to export the technology to other countries, planning to ultimately spread the System across the globe.

When the state of SEAUn brings the Sibyl System in to test its effectiveness, it becomes a haven of peace and safety—for a time. Eventually, terrorists from SEAUn begin appearing in Japan, somehow slipping through the System's security and attacking from within. Desperate for answers, Inspector Akane Tsunemori is sent overseas to bring the terrorists to justice. But when her investigation forces her into a standoff with an old ally, will she be able to pull the trigger?

Funimation announced last July that it planned to debut the film in theaters in 2016. Entertainment news website IGN began streaming Funimation's English-dubbed trailer for the film on Tuesday:

The film opened on January 9, 2015 at #4 in the Japanese box office and earned 247.8 million yen (US$2.08 million). The film won several honors at the Newtype Anime Awards 2015.

The Psycho-Pass film is based on the original Psycho-Pass sci-fi television anime series, which premiered in 2012. Funimation licensed the series for release in North America. A second season debuted in 2014, and Funimation similarly licensed and streamed the series as it aired in Japan.

Writer Makoto Fukami (Chotto Kawaii Iron Maiden, Ōsama-tachi no Viking) wrote the film's screenplay with Gen Urobuchi. Fukami collaborated with Urobuchi on the first season of Psycho-Pass, but Tow Ubukata handled series composition of the second season.
