Assassination Classroom, A Bride's Story, Master Keaton, Mizuki's Showa, A Silent Voice, Sunny Manga Nominated for Eisner Awards

Winners will be announced at Comic Con International in July

The 2016 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards panel of judges announced its nominees for the best works in the comic book industry on Tuesday. Six manga titles are vying for the Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia award:

In addition, Drawn & Quarterly: Twenty-Five Years of Contemporary Cartooning, Comics, and Graphic Novels, an anthology which includes work by Yoshihiro Tatsumi among other artists, received a nomination in the Best Anthology category. Boys Love Manga and Beyond: History, Culture, and Community in Japan— edited by Mark McLelland, Kazumi Nagaike, Katsuhiko Suganuma, and James Welker—was nominated in the Best Academic/Scholarly Work category. Yen Press' release of Svetlana Chmakova's Awkward was nominated in the Best Publication for Teens (ages 13-17) category.

The results in all categories will be announced in a gala awards ceremony on the evening of Friday, July 22 at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Manga creator Rumiko Takahashi (Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, RIN-NE) has been nominated for the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame this year.

Drawn & Quarterly's release of Shigeru Mizuki's Showa 1939-1944: A History of Japan and Showa 1944-1953: A History of Japan won the Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia award last year. Other nominees included Moyoco Anno's In Clothes Called Fat, the first volume of Master Keaton, One-Punch Man, Wolf Children: Ame & Yuki, and Takeshi Obata and Ryōsuke Takeuchi's manga adaptation of All You Need Is Kill.
